  1. One word, Bonaire. My wife and I went last October. After our snorkeling excursion we walked thru an open air market and back into some shopping areas. We weren't hassled at all by the vendors, the area wasn't a "cruise dock" offering local flavor and interactions and we felt safer than anywhere else I think we've been in the Caribbean. We've been to quite a few other places but Bonaire was the nicest once we got away from the ship and it's not even close. Have they gotten rid of the machine gun toting "guards" at the docks in Jamaica yet?
  2. Thanks, You are right that there's a lot to do in SF, but we grew up in NorCal and we have been down to the City I can't even guess how many times. I guess that's why I'm thinking "boring" I can hop in the car and do any of it in 2 hours, in fact 3 of the last 5 weekends we've been down there either visiting family or for work. I've done Fisherman's Wharf (tourist trap), I've seen the Sea Lions too many times. We've done food tours and Ghiradelli Square and Union City and we go to Giants game regularly so we're familiar with the whole Embarcadero and North Beach areas. Sausalito is very nice, we've gone their for beach days followed by nice seafood dinners (the view at night across the Bay is great, kind of like being on Coronado and looking at San Diego) and to hang out around the Golden Gate Bridge. We've done the Park, the Tea Gardens, the Presidio, etc. I tried looking up Astoria online and found a page but it didn't sound like there's much there.
  3. Hi, My wife and I are scheduled currently to do a Pacific Northwest cruise in September. I'm looking at the itinerary and it looks pretty, um, boring. I was looking for anyone who could recommend some good excursions. The ports are Astoria, Oregon: San Francisco, CA: and Victoria, BC. If you're wondering why we booked a "boring" cruise it's because we booked it as part of a Land and Sea package (12 night Rocky Mountain Adventure). All the cool stuff was on the Land Tour after the cruise but Royal canceled it on us saying they mispriced the Land package and it isn't honoring our full booking. Thanks for the advice on excursions in advance.
