Based the attached image, they are offering a cash refund for the shortened itinerary but not a cash refund if you don't show up. The 60% is a refundable onboard credit (meaning you get it back) in addition to 50% credit towards a future cruise. I honestly think that's a pretty good deal overall and much more than they needed to offer especially since the cruise hasn't been canceled.

Would I want to or being willing to sail to Puerto Rico for a 3 day cruise? No! But the cruise line could also only offer the 60%, too, so they're offering more than they are required.

That 3 day cruise starts and ends in San Juan. lets be real here, the island has been wiped out. Making plans to make that cruise is futile and only will lead to another disappointment. Switching gears for a moment, do you actually think that altered cruise is going to even happen out of San Juan?  I have some swamp land left over at a reduced price if you are extra optimistic.  We will be fine. my post was more of a PSA then anything else.

    Just the facts:

To be clear, you can argue what is and isn't fair all you wish.  But if you want to preface something with "just the facts" then the fact is this is the document you agreed to abide by.  Fairness is subjective, not factual.

I am totally familiar with that document, so what it your point? They are legal in what they are doing but as is asked in my post, is it fair?

Hey dj.  I wanted to respond to your post.  I know I did earlier in the week.  I know you know that RCCL is doing the best they can with a terrible situation.  Nobody can help the fact that 3 terrible storms, 2 of which hit the same are, have wreaked havoc on the Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, and SW Atlantic Ocean in the past 3 weeks.  It seems the major cruise lines that serve these areas have really stepped up to help save lives and to do the best they can for their passengers. If it were me, I'd be bummed too.  I've had one vacation rescheduled by a hurricane, and the replacement turned out to be one of the best trips of my life.  I hope you can work out to take full advantage of the discounted cruise they've offered.

I will never know about the discounted cruise, it to Leaves from San Juan in 5 days.  The problem is you can't get there.  but you are right they have done the best they could.

I have thought Royal has handled Irma pretty well, but I have a feeling things are going to start to change as these cruise lines are losing a lot of $$ with the hurricanes IMHO.

Offering someone a future credit that expires and there is no guarantee that the credit will even cover the cost of rebooking a cruise is defn NOT a refund!

Not to mention, getting to SanJjuan would be a nightmare now..plus a 7 day cruise down to a 3 night cruise means you now have 4 extra nights in a hotel to pay for if you cant change your flights or there is a cost to it.

When someone books a 7 day cruise..they sure as hell didn't want a 3 day...should be a full refund. In this case, Royal is defn dropping the ball IMHO.

Call them and politely ask about a refund.  They might have some leeway in granting them and just didn't advertise it in the email.  If you booked through a travel agent, call your travel agent first.  They probably know the real scoop already and what you can expect.  Also, travel agents can call in and get to reps with a little more power than the public-facing hotline.

The airlines do this all the time.  It's an insanity only a Marketing MBA could've dreamed up.  They collect data based on what people are willing to pay to fill a plane to get from point A to point B and how profitable it needs to be in order to be worth their while for a given leg and then figure out how to arrange their routes.  Raleigh to Puerto Rico might be $201, but Raleigh to Atlanta might be $300, even though it's the same plane.  They need to get enough people to Atlanta to fill the plane going to Puerto Rico, so they give a break to people passing through and make up the difference of people stopping at Atlanta.  They're burning more fuel and running a whole extra plane for you, but they get to overcharge some other poor sucker so it all works out in the end.

And they get really angry if you try to game their crazy system.  There was a whole website set up to track things like this that would tell you the cheapest way to get somewhere by skipping the extra legs of a flight.  The airlines sued.

We have, answer was sorry corporate decision .

I'm sure OP knows this, but RCCL announced their plan for the Adventure OTS cruise:

So, do they really think the port will be open within a week, or are they trying to get as many people as possible to cancel for a future cruise credit before they actually have to cancel the cruise and issue cash refunds?

They have canceled the original cruise but want to make it seem like we the customers canceled  the cruise in order to keep it legal in their favor.

    Original one was this

    ITINERARY: Location Arrival Date Departure Date San Juan, Puerto Rico Day 1 Sep 23 2017 20:30 Charlotte Amalie (St.Thomas), USVI Day 2 Sep 24 2017 08:00 Day 2 Sep 24 2017 17:00 At Sea Day 3 Sep 25 2017 Day 3 Sep 25 2017 Willemstad, Curacao Day 4 Sep 26 2017 08:00 Day 4 Sep 26 2017 20:00 Oranjestad, Aruba Day 5 Sep 27 2017 08:00 Day 5 Sep 27 2017 23:00 At Sea Day 6 Sep 28 2017 Day 6 Sep 28 2017 Basseterre, St. Kitts Day 7 Sep 29 2017 07:00 Day 7 Sep 29 2017 16:00 San Juan, Puerto Rico Day 8 Sep 30 2017 06:00.

It Morphed into this Wednesday, September 27, sailing a 3-night itinerary to Antigua and St. Kitts.

A bit mis-leading subject title.  There is in fact a refund.  In fact, from the sounds of it, there are several options for refunds.  What is true is that you cant simply get a refund and walk away.  form what I have read on the various other cruises effected this season , this seems pretty normal.  My question would be how the 50% cruise credit works?  50% of the cost of this current cruise or 50% of the cruise I take next?  I could see this as a real wind-fall.  I still go on a cruise now (though shortened) then turn around and book a more extravagant cruise (like Alaska with a balcony!)

Not misleading at all. there is No refund. If you think having a use or lose credit that expires in a year

is a refund.....your  not applying to much common sense. Secondly  YOU CAN NOT GET TO SAN JUAN to make it to the new sailing date of September 27th.

  8. Adventure of the Seas: September 23

Due to the uncertainty of the timing of the port re-opening in San Juan, we anticipate our new departure date will be Wednesday, September 27, sailing a 3-night itinerary to Antigua and St. Kitts.

We know these changes are disappointing, and we are truly sorry for the storm’s impact on your vacation. Should you choose to sail with us we will provide you with a refund of 60% of your cruise fare paid in the form of a refundable onboard credit, and an additional 50% future cruise credit, for a cruise booked within the next year.

If you are unable to travel and need to cancel your cruise, we will provide you with a 100% future cruise credit, for a cruise booked within the next year. Pre-booked shore excursions will be refunded to your original form of payment, and you will have the ability to book excursions in our new ports of call once onboard.

The storm is over Puerto Rico now.  It should be long gone by Saturday.  Then the question will be how much damage to Puerto Rico and the ports you are scheduled to go to.  I hope you have a great time.  The most number of days I've been on a ship in a year is 26.  I'm a little jealous of your 35.

thanks, we did a transatlantic in march. then on the new Princess Majestic around Italy and Greece,  then a smaller vessel around  the smaller island ports. I think the Achilles heel in this trip is going to be the air-"port" as opposed to the cruse port.

Hey dj.  Looks like you are new here.  Probably the number 1 most discussed topic on this board is getting to your location the day before your cruise or buying insurance at the time of purchase.  Obviously, it's way too late for that now.  You may get lucky, based upon the timeline given, and I hope so.  If so, have a great cruise, and please next time spend an extra day at the beginning in the home port of your ship.

Our original plans were to go on Thursday prior to the departure date but we switched to  Saturday due to the obvious Also, we purchased Insurance. Southwest airlines stopped service as of 6PM yesterday. I am new here but not to cruising. 35 days this year alone. Thanks though..

  11. Hopefully Starting Cruise out of San Juan Sept. 23. Our flight is booked from Orlando to San Juan arriving at 11:55 AM. Adventurer of the Seas leaves at 8PM that same day. It appears that Tropical storm Maria may alter our plans and stop us from getting in to San Juan. our issue is that no one at Allianz will clarify when the 24 hour rule goes in to effect. Any one have experience with this?

    Canceled services
Your airline, cruise line, or tour operator or travel supplier stops offering
all services for at least 24 consecutive hours where you’re departing,
arriving or making a connection because of:
     a natural disaster;
     severe weather;
     a strike; or
 a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mandate.

    Thanks in advance
