I don't think I will get an email though. My cruise almost a year. I think RCI send to closer sailing date to fill up the ship. So people that already booked get upgrade they with the price they set and RCI gets more money. I YOLO the Balcony Symphony OTS in October.  It will be nice if I won the JR Suite so I can join the Suite snob! gang.  @Lovetocruise2002  ?

I received it but it is all about making money. Solo travelers do not benefit as you still have to pay double-occupancy. It is all a scam.

That little company called Apple that sells these devices that we all tether our body 24/7 and forces us to buy silly looking ear phones that look like they are broken is also about making money.  Come to think of it every business is all about making money, especially the ones that need to return value to their shareholders.

If it doesnt make them money or loses them money the program goes away, its capitalism at its finest.

Still a scam. If I want a suite I'll get it from the get-go when the itinerary is first announced. Why would I pay a starting bid of over $1,000.00 above what I got now for a measly 5 sq. ft. addition/slightly bigger room?? No way, Jose!!

i got the email today. We are on the Oasis of the Seas, March 3, 2019. Currently booked in Boardwalk Balcony.

Our email offer is   Aqua 1bdrm - $1,000

                                  Crown Loft - $900

                                   Owners - $900

                                   Grand - $600

                                    Jr - $300

I'm not too sure what we'll do. We actually like being in the back of the Boardwalk rooms where we can see the show, watch the ocean, people watch, etc. We'll probably bid on Aqua and/or Crown Loft. But, I'd have to make a decision about cancelling the Dlx Drink Pkg. I look forward to hearing if people actually win their bids.

Just remember that the 'up' price needs to be doubled for two passengers. That is the price you will pay if your bid is accepted.

My offer came today for our sailing this weekend on Harmony. Not worth the price to go from Junior suite to grand suite. It’s only three of us (me, wife, 8yr old)and we already have four specialty dining restsurants planned. Can’t see coastal kitchen, better seating at shows, suite lounge being worth 800 bucks.

Got the offer for an upgrade on our cruise on Anthem leaving NJ on 30Mar19, it is a 7 day Bahamas going to Cape Canaveral, Nassau, and CocoCay.  We currently have a Jr Suite and have been offered to bid for an upgrade for the following prices....

  • Royal Loft $2300pp
  • Upper Loft $1500pp
  • Sky Loft $700
  • Owners Suite $500pp
  • Grand Suite $350pp

I may bid on a Grand Suite but I am a little afraid, if I win it I know that I will be spoiled for life and a simple balcony room or Jr Suite just won't cut it anymore!!?

We got ours today for the Anthem 12-night sailing out of Cape Liberty on January 6, 2019. To even be considered for a Junior Suite, we would have to bid at least $500 pp (min bid is $250 pp which won't get us anywhere).  We already have a balcony stateroom in a location we like, so upgrading to a Junior Suite makes no sense because there are two days out and two days back that are going to be cold. If we were in the Med or sailing from Florida or San Juan, we would consider it.

Just received our offer today for Jan 13, 2019 Oasis cruise.  We currently are in the deck 8 ATS.  The bids start at $400pp for Star Loft, $700pp for Panoramic, and $1200pp for the Royal Loft.  While the Royal Loft is VERY tempting, I'm sure the $1200pp ($2400 total) bid will not take it, as it can go up to $4700pp.  My husband says "lets stick to the ATS for our 1st cruise", I say "YOLO, BOOK IT".  (we are not asking the daughters at ages 14 & 24 for their opinion lol) Bank account says "?"

Since this is your first Star Class experience, I recommend you stick with the ATS on Deck 8.  It's an experience everyone should have at least once.  The 2-level suites are very nice but there's something very special about the A1 suites.  If you were on deck 9 or 10 I would say maybe...those rooms are significantly smaller than the ones on 8 but you have the biggest one of all.

Since they are all Star Class, you wouldn't gain anything by upgrading except being on deck 17 (which definitely has it's advantages !) and the novelty of having 2 levels.  Personally, I don't see ANY reason to spend more money at this point.  The only downside to being in the ATS is the walking distance.  It is a LONG way back there but it's worth the walk for the experience.  Be sure and get breakfast delivered to your suite and eat out on the balcony.  It's incredible out there !

Once you've done the ATS once you can consider the loft suites.  They are extremely convenient but I think you will regret not doing the ATS if you give it up now.

Our TA is under the impression that any bids are conditional. If you bid, you are only considered if someone else cancels, then the highest bid wins. Most suites are booked well in advance. IMHO Royal is hedging their bets and saving the labor of calling to fill cabins suddenly cancelled. My TA also says there is no C&A preference as there was previously. Another C&A downgrade. We got an offer regarding our Serenade cruise in Feb 19. Didn't make sense to me.

Another take on this -- With my Bermuda sailing last October, Anthem had a bunch of suites (including Junior Suites) unfilled at final payment date. If these emails are going out shortly after final payment dates (which it seems they are), then it could also be a way for Royal to quickly fill those unsold suites without having to do a ton of sudden "Guarantee Rate" offers on suites all the way up to sail date, which is what I observed happening as I kept watching to see if I could maybe snag an upgrade from JS to GS for a reasonable bump. For sure, I'd be happy to put in a bid from balcony to JS on my 2019 return to Bermuda, if it meant I could catch not just someone fully canceling their JS booking, but someone getting their own upgrade to a full suite from their existing JS.

This is definitely copying what Norwegian has been doing for a while; it must be working there, or Royal wouldn't have adopted it.

I forget, do you get the double points for suites when using Royal Up (when bidding to upgrade from a normal cabin)?

If not, I think I would only use this if I had already booked a suite and was hoping to catch an upgrade at low cost.

Imagine booking an ocean view, bidding on a Crown Loft, winning, and only getting single points.  I'm guessing the total cost would have been more than enough to get a grand suite originally so I'd be upset not to get the double points!
