Alcohol aboard question

this is my first cruise :)

I read you can bring two bottles of wine when you board the ship per cabin but can you purchase bottles of wine on the ship and/or at ports of call that you can consume during your cruise as well?

If this is answered elsewhere please tell me where to go :P

Hi Merry! you are able to bring 2-750ml bottles onboard per stateroom. If you purchase bottles on board it is kept in the dining room and brought out at meals. I'm not sure if you can ask to take the bottle with you to your stateroom. As for wine bought in port, it will be taken from you and returned the last night. The exception to this was when we left from Barcelona. There is a duty free in the terminal after you clear the bag check. We were able to bring on several bottles of wine and a 12-pack or beer with no issue.

Thank you! it's a little overwhelming and confusing to me

so basically you get a boat, free food and pay for everything else?

unless you buy some sort of pass that costs $300+ or more for just wanting a few drinks?

Hi Merry, if you are looking to enjoy just a few drinks then there is no need to purchase an drink package. Drinks purchased without a drink package are charged to your seapass account.

After you drink your 2 bottles of wine that your brought with you upon embarkation, purchase glasses of wine or drinks a la carte.  Many glasses are in the $12-$14 range.  If you want the wine you brought cold, ask your stateroom attendant for an ice bucket.  The stateroom attendant can get you a bottle opener too if you need it.

You can purchase bottles of wine on the ship and consume it onboard.  You could also buy wine in port, but RC will hold that wine until your last night of the cruise.

Yes. 

However, I look at a cruise, cost wise,  as the same way I look at a land vacation.  In the end, when you add it all up, including the sticker shock of 50 bucks a day or 300 for a 6 night cruise, I find cruising a better option including the excursions that I have to also pay from a cost aspect.  

The reasons why are simple.  I get to see multiple locations ...go to bed at night at 1 beach and wake up the next a.m. at another beach. ~~~ During sea days I have the exact thing a land all inclusive offers too.  I have the gym, I have multiple restaurants (free), I have multiple pools, a casino, Great shows (Mama Mia, Hairspray, We Will Rock you and Quest), movies at night by the pool, dance parties,  with many of the bigger ships, I also can use Flow Rider, Rock Climbing, basketball, I Fly, ice skating, bumper cars, miniature golf,  water slides, ziplines, etc.  All of those activities are free.

I think if you do the total cost and compare it to Sandals or Resorts, in the end the cost is basically the same with the deluxe beverage package, and Voom.  

Off topic, but on topic too.  The reason many cruisers use a TA is because they also throw in perks.  We are not foodies, but using the TA they threw in 2 specialty restaurants and 100 OBC and with the cost of an outside Balcony cheaper than RCCL and SAM's Club.   You do not pay for a TA, the cruise line does.
