Cash for Casino

Just curious if everyone takes a "boat" load of cash with them or for security reasons do you pay the 5% and use a card?  I am going on the Symphony in February for 7 nights and planned on allocating roughly $3-4K, obviously it would be nice if I don't have to use all of that :).  But with prior airline travel and such before even getting on the ship it concerns me walking around with that much on hand.

Thanks!

There are users that post on here that just go to the casino and take out the cash that they need, but they are at a high enough level in the Casino Royal points program that they do not have to pay the 5%. I know that doesn't answer your question, I'm merely trying to provide input.

I took a $1000 on my last cruise and split it between my wife and I and then left it in the room safe.

So you used onboard ATM’s instead of going through the casino cage then?

Yes, just used the ATM since I knew I would be refunded up to $10 at the end of the month for withdrawal charges.  Saves me from traveling with a large chunk of cash and no fee.

You could also buy onboard credit ahead of time and apply it to your account rather than put down a credit card.  Whatever you don't use you can get refunded at guest services at the end of the cruise and since it's like a cash account they shouldn't charge the 5% in the casino.  I've never tried this, though.

Prior to our first cruise in 2006, we heard they had quarter slot machines in the casino. So, being one of those guys that empties his pocket change into a big bucket at home at the end of the day, I went through it and pulled out close to $100.00 in quarters prior to leaving home for the cruise. I put the coins a zip lock bags and into my carry on bag. Boy, did the TSA have FUN with me! ?

For sure you can bring less than half of it and get the rest from the Casino without the 5%.

Even if you do not have any status in Club Royal , to get to the status which give you the 5% waver you need to accumulate 1000 points (you get to prime level) once you got the points the hosts can put a sticker on your card indicating you have prime status which will give you the free drinks (at the Casino bar) and the waver.  its all depends what you are playing ,playing the slots will give you 1 point for each 5 $ played , on the table the calculation is more complicate and depends the amount you play per hand , the game , the time you played and sometime making sure the host notice you are playing more than the table minimum.

To check your point balance you can always insert you card to one of the slots machines.
