Anthem Of The Seas Coming to Southampton 2020.

Recommended Posts

Just heard that Anthem is back in Southampton in 2020. This may just be the ship that I will be taking my first solo cruise on. Although I wasn't a huge fan when I sailed her from Bayonne 2 years ago, I'll be interested to see what itineraries she is offering. Fingers crossed Joff will be there as well.

The question is - What ship will replace her in Bayonne? If I were a betting man, I would say Oasis will replace LB in Galveston and she will cover for the summer season then heads to Florida when Quantum 5 enters service and it will go to NJ. Anthem will likely replace Oasis for the winter in Miami.

RCI, We need a retractable smokestack for Oasis class ships. ?

Originally the Oasis funnels were retractable because needed to get under the Storebaelt Bridge in Denmark when she was first built.  Since then they have installed permanent equipment to scrub the smoke to meet emission standards and they are no longer retractable.

The Storebaelt Bridge is very close in height to the Verrazano-Narrows bridge but they pulled a lot of tricks to clear it and that isn't feasible in NY Harbor even if they could lower the funnel (which they can't).  Doing so for every sailing would be a nightmare.

Probably Quantum of the Seas because Spectrum is headed over to Asia.  Ovation will probably go to Australia after she's finished Alaska.

The only reason that I do not think that Quantum is not going to leave Asia is Royal did quite a few modifications to her for the Asian market including replacing the Music Hall with additional casino space and more luxury shopping venues than her sisters.

That's not a bet I'd take. Very short timeline to work out any plan for getting a new terminal building and modifying the harbor to accommodate an Oasis class ship, then actually building said new terminal building, doing whatever dredging or pier changes would be required, etc. 18 months is long to us, but just looking at the progress with Perfect Day, or the construction of the new terminal building in Miami, I'd be very dubious about getting a project like that done in time when there isn't even a formal contract yet with Galveston.

If I had to bet on what ship would replace anthem, I’d go with the 5th quantum class ship they have on order. It should be complete right as anthem goes back.

You could be on to something there. I just looked up the size to see what is was for the Icon class ship and its smaller than the Oasis class but bigger than Ovation class ships, but the competition date isn't until 2022.

The Liberty's Captain confirmed Oasis to Galveston. A stateroom attendant or waiter may say something about ship deployment, but I can trust that the Captain would know for sure.

When we were on Explorer in 2012, Captain Loy confirmed Quantum to NJ and Anthem to Southampton for their respective Inaugural seasons, both of which turned out to be true.

Hmm. Well that certainly puts a whole different spin on it. Not entirely sure Liberty would go out of NJ, more because she's not a cold-weather ship than because of size. But, if Anthem was just in Southampton for the summer season as I'd seen speculated in the Anthem FB group, and came back to handle winter sailings in NJ, then I could definitely see a ship like Liberty filling in for those summer months.

If they could have two ships to replace the Anthem, I would LOVE to see the Empress of the Seas doing Bermuda again.  Few remember how fantastic it was to be on a ship that can get through the cut to port in St George and right along Front Street in Hamilton.  SO much more flavor of Bermuda than out at the Dockyard.

Delighted to hear this news this morning, I’ll be glad to board a different ship to the Independence without the need to fly.

Not so delighted this morning. Prices just released and although I was expecting a price hike against what I paid for the Indy, I wasn’t expecting the price to double. Paid £1100 pp for the Indy, similar itinerary and date for the Anthem is coming in at £2399. Certainly not paying that, hopefully independent cruise companies are lower than the RCI website.

With the UK market they always blast up the prices when they are first released, I know people say always book as soon as possible for the English cruises out of Southampton I would most certainly say this is NOT the case. there isn't even an offer included like OBC or drinks package.

I suggest monitoring daily if you can and wait till December 17th when the new offer comes out.

Thanks, its  what I’m ntending to do, no chance of booking early at those prices, absolute madness.

Not sure how UK markets work, but that is what I thought about Symphony prices too when they were initially released.  Prices have done nothing but go up since then.
