Some people will never learn!!

Recommended Posts

This has reminded me of this story. The first cruise I was on on Independence there where 2 groups of people that where getting a bit drunk by the pool bar, at one point the bar man had to run off to grab some supplies, guy was on his own in there, so 2 members of the groups jumped the bar, helped themselves to drinks and then walked off as if nothing had happened.
The next part of the story I head from one of the cabin attendants the next day, so early the next morning we docked in Vigo, Security marched down to the staterooms, blatered on the doors till they opened up and escorted them all off the ship, hangovers and all.
Apparently the screaming very quickly turned to begging.

Really don't understand the thinking of some people at times

This is irrelevant and moot since she transported the drugs, etc. onto foreign soil/waters.

With more widespread legalization (medical and recreational) around the world, I think this is going to happen much more often.  And that $4,000 fine is probably the tip of the iceberg for how much it'll cost in the end after lawyers fees and everything.

You have to abide by the law of the land you're in.  Just because something is legal back home, doesn't mean it's going to be legal abroad!

Not sure how you could "forget" all the stuff that they found in her bag and room but...lol

It is going to be something that we may hear happening more as more countries legalize it, but many still wont.

Here in Canada its legal trmw and you can fly within Canada with up to 30 grams(about 60-70 joints on you).....but lots of warnings not to take it anywhere outside of here on your person.

Reading the story it says they found canabis oil, grinder and marajuana pipes in her cabin, no mention of actual marijuana as the article states. If marajuana was found on her maybe she bought that on the island and thats how they caught her as it states she wad searched at customs trying to get back on ship, then they searched her room afterwards. So by the looks of it the drugs were purchased on the island

US CBA will be asking questions regarding cannabis use.  Any type of use ever in your life may result in a lifetime ban into the USA.

Yeah..i am well aware of that and its no issue for me...but it seems a little heavy handed to ask if ever used as many have at some point in their life at least tried it..even if they didn't inhale it..lol...

I can think of a few Presidents who under that rule wouldn't be allowed back into their own country if that rule applied.....I am hoping cooler heads prevail......

Sounds like a money grab to me. Something boss Hogg and RP Coltrane would pull on an out of town motorist at a speed trap. Yes it’s illegal but 4K for some paraphernalia and weed is steep.

Actually, she got off extremely easy! She could have done big time for INTERNATIONAL transportation of such paraphernalia and marijuana. She should be counting her lucky stars!!

may I remind some of the real danger involved in what some consider "just a joint" in other countries remember the case surrounding "The Midnight Express"years ago in Turkey I believe other countries have different views on westerners breaking there laws and most don't have to even sentence the violator just toss them in what we would consider a bus station toilet they consider a cell never (possibly)to see the states again I have been to Nassau many times and cant remember a time the conch shell vendors dockside didn't offer to sell me pot fortunately I have not had any interest in the weed for over 40 yrs but in my younger days I am sure I would have been sorely tempted more then once over the years on carny and RC I have been on my balcony or walking the hall and smelled the distinctive odor I have seen a whole party turned over to the Mexican police for indulging in use of the weed on the ship and underage drinking I personally lecture my children every time we cruise of the difference of laws in other lands knowing fool well how short the young memories can be if you love them teach them never take for granted they know look at what happened to the college boy in china for trying to get a souvenir from the hotel a simple political poster ultimately cost him his life when in other lands even lands we take for granted like the Bahamas be on our best behavior if you have to think about it don't do it and remember as it has been stated many times not everyone in these ports has our best interest in mind be careful stay alert and visible not everyone in the world loves us  but as I saw stated earlier you cant fix stupid

At no point in the story does it say she transported marijuana. It says pipes !!

Chances are she was stopped at customes reboarding ship having bought marajuana on the island and this is why they searched her room also, doesnt make it right but we shouldnt class someone as an international drug smuggler when at no point in the story does it state that. No marajuana was found in her room so it must have been found on her when returning from island, thats not a smuggler thats a user

I direct you to the title of the article which states, and I quote with emphasis "Royal Caribbean passenger arrested, fined $4,000 for marijuana possession". Moreover, I also direct you to the first paragraph which states, " An American cruise ship passenger was arrested in Bermuda Tuesday morning after she was caught with marijuana and drug paraphernalia." Since she was arrested and fined for "marijuana possession", one can deduce,  since she traveled over international waters, she was transporting it on her person to another country whether knowledgeable or not. Am I missing something??? Since she admitted she was in the wrong and pled guilty to the lesser offense, the Magistrates’ Court went lenient on her.  She could have (a/k/a probably or possibly) done big time for INTERNATIONAL transportation of such paraphernalia and marijuana IF they wanted to make an example of her. She should be counting her lucky stars!!

I agree completly she was fined for marijuana possesion but read the article clearly, it states that a grinder , cannabis oil and marajuana pipes were found in her room, there is no mention of actual marajuana being found in her room. Surely if they found it in her room they would have said so, to me this would imply that the marajuana was found at customs trying to reboard ship which gave customs reason to search her cabin.

Dont get me wrong im in no way advocating the use or transportstion of any drugs but to me reading this article the marajuana was purchased on the island not transported to a foriegn country.

From what I read she had it in her bag when she reboarded hence that initiated the search of her cabin. I sure hope Bermuda doesn’t disregard people’s civil rights and just search a cabin for no reason or probable cause. International smuggling? what a joke. Try a woman who has menstual cramps and uses it for her pain.

You're applying U.S. law/principles in a foreign country which doesn't fly. She entered foreign waters/soil and the applicable laws in that Country will apply accordingly as will the search of her cabin on Anthem that is docked in foreign waters/soil.
