This is the same sale that has gone on the entire summer. So, actually, it isn't a Labor Day sale. Just a "sucker is born everyday" sale! ?

I have voiced my frustration on the so called sales that RCCL publishes every minute of the day.  It truly is for the people that have no clue which I feel bad for!  Don't get me wrong, RCCL does have some great deals on cruises but it's only the ones that they are having a hard time filling.  Yes, I also get they are a business trying to make money so they will prey on those who do not do their homework!

As long as they still make a hefty profit they don't have to put in deep sales and as far as I can tell they don't have issues selling cabins. They do the sales to let people think they are getting a bargain; no different than what malls and car dealerships do on a routine basis. As a consumer we are always looking for the deal, and as long as we feel we got a deal, we feel good and companies go on making us feel good with sales advertising.  It's win-win for the consumer to big business dynamic.

How many people go on a RC cruise even know about this site to get information? I did only because I am a researcher and have to always look for "the deal." There is a wealth of knowledge in these pages but only a select set of people will ever run across this blog to get a detailed understanding of the "inner RC."

Not being rude at all. My response was from the Wizard of Oz, no reference to any cruise line. This post started out as a joke, if you truly followed along, you would have picked that up. I also know the difference between every cruise line that there is as I have cruised approximately 40 years. We all are here to enjoy this great blog, share our different experiences and opinions and have a little fun along the way.  Sit back, relax, and have a Mimosa on me!  ???????

Tried to see if it was worth upgrading to a JS (from spacious balcony). According to MEI Casino wanted an additional $356 for a 3-nighter on Enchantment. She was going to try again today since the price difference on the site is less than $100 per person.

Do the deluxe drinks package go on sale on Labor Day?

Unpredictable. They might or they might not. And if they do there's no guarantee the sale will apply to every ship or even every sailing on the same ship. All you can do is check your cruise planner daily (or even more often, as prices have been known to change from am to pm). Hope springs eternal. :5_smiley:

Honest question...so if these sales aren’t typically worth it, when and where is the best time to book?

We usually either get lucky and find a price we’re happy with or make a late decision and just live with it. Our dates usually aren’t very flexible which doesn’t help.

The best time to book is when you see a price you're comfortable with and this applies both to booking the actual cruise and booking cruise planner items.

For cruise planner purchases, it is definitely worth checking the prices on a daily basis and being aware of the prices of the items you're interested in because some real sales do crop up from time to time, offering genuine savings. When this happens you can cancel your previous purchases without penalty and re-book at the lower price, with the caveat that you have to pay for them a second time and wait a few days for your refund to be returned to your account. The exception to this is if you paid using OBC from Royal, in which case you see that returned to your cruise planner the second you cancel the first booking.

For your cruise fare, if you're booking under US rules, you can sometimes get it re-priced to reflect a sale price but it can be a tricky process that is probably easier to navigate with the help of a well-qualified travel agent. Note that if you're booking from somewhere other than the US (UK, EU, etc), you're likely stuck with the original cruise fare you paid unless you are prepared to lose your deposit. In some cases, the difference in price actually makes this a cost-effective option!

I have no insider info, but my gut is telling me that although there will be holiday discounts on drink packages, we probably won't see the good ones for a while so that RC can recoup their losses from "the debacle".

But that is the price I am willing to pay and I did not get in on "the debacle" so it is the pirate life for me.

It’s been my experience that if you are Emerald or higher, your Crown and Anchor discount is better than the sale prices. That happened on our last Emerald cruise and when we booked our first Diamond.

Anyone else experience this?

Re: drink package. The best sale I’ve ever seen is a 30% off. Usually either with Black Friday or their WOW sale.

It appears the standard “sales” are 20% off (which is usually available all the time), Buy one, get one 50% off (basically 25% off each package) and the once in a blue moon 30% off.

Does Emerald have good drink discounts on board?  I was under the (very possibly mistaken) impression that they didn't kick in until Diamond.

We weren't given a discount at Emerald but told it started at Diamond so if that is different I'd love to know as we have an October cruise coming up.  Does anyone have a copy of the in cabin letter for Emerald?

Emerald does not have any drink package discounts, Diamond does not even have any drink package discounts.

Reports lately from Diamond + Members are saying that even those deluxe drink package discounts for D+ are now gone.

I just saw a cheat sheet from the current Mariner sailing where it was 30% for D+ and 40% for Pinnacle..those were the only discounts.  Of course Royal mathed wrong and the numbers didn't actually make sense ?  But the daily full price on this 4-day sailing was $82 plus 18%!

100 bucks a day now with the mandatory gratuity, i guess RCL is catering to the uber drinkers (sit at the bars from dawn till 3 am) now only instead of the casual "lets have a good time" drinkers.
