function12
Saw this on the new last night. Not good. https://www.khou.com/article/news/nation-now/state-department-orders-travel-advisory-for-mexico-after-8-bodies-found-in-cancun/465-d59d56ab-d741-47b5-9f8e-0c985b22f350
Baked Alaska
Read that article last night. Won't be making plans to visit Cancun for some time to come. It's been in a free fall for a while.
twangster
Likely local cartels interacting with each other. KLA and Carlos A.
Carlos A.
Leaving tomorrow to Cancún, would let you know how it went. If anyone is planning a trip to Cancun you shouldn't be worried about this. This news as bad as they sound doesn't affect tourist at all. This events tend to happen in other areas very distant from the Hotel and touristic Zone of Cancún. Clearly the note states: "None of the killings occurred in the city’s beach-side hotel zone", "...in remote areas of Cancun eight bodies were discovered Tuesday." Glad to hear this since I have very fond memories of Cancun and would love to get back there at some point, but also sad for the loss of life occurring. As @twangster said, definitely seems like local cartels targeting one another specifically and not targeting tourism. monctonguy
Probably more dead in Chicago on a weekend than Cancun. And pretty sure its drug/cartel related. So as long as you avoid that, should be fine. While Cancun wouldn't be on the top of my list, I t certainly wouldn't deter me from going there for the right deal!
