What are the Perks offered at the different levels?

Recommended Posts

Can someone check me on this, seems Crown & Anchor are in a constant state of change at lease with me and with the different ships and crew. Or, seems to me when you want specifics, things get hazy. Or it's the standard answer: the range is 0-25% and then there is a long explaination that I don't really understand. And, with most of the crew where English is a second or third language, it is difficult in the translation.

On our last cruise, I had such challenges with the crew and service people regarding the perks pre-loaded on our cards. They didn’t know all the available offers (until we bought it), and/or they didn’t know which offers were better to pick from (the drink offers & internet offers).

We ended up leaving most of the perks on the table just because we couldn’t see them, they were a bit confusing, couldn’t decide, or just didn’t know they were on the seapass.

I understand we are moving to a paperless society, but I liked the coupon method of letting us know what was available (something I could actually see).

Also these things seem to change. When in doubt, book a suite, then you get everything and don’t have to jump through all these hoops.

Below is what I have found out available at the different levels. Please check the accuracy of this listing against your own experiences. I’ve tried to list what I know and what I could find. Also at the end is a link to Crown & Anchor’s web page listing, graphically and color coding in diagram form, the perks.

It looks correct for Platinum.  The only exception on the Jewel in January is the Pets at Sea coupon as there was none onboard, so the coupon wasn't offered.  Unfortunately, I don't believe I used any of the discounts on the Jewel as there was no compelling reason to do so as I either wasn't interested in the offer and/or it was of no benefit because I was on one of the beverage programs.

Every coupon offered on the ship should be detailed on a letter left in your cabin.  If you don't receive one on boarding day, I would inquire with Guest Services or the Loyalty Ambassador.

If memory serves, all C&A members in the cabin receive the loyalty level of the highest C&A member in the cabin.  Thus, when I turn Emerald next cruise, my wife will receive the same "perks" as I do even though she's Platinum, unless she's booked in her own cabin for some reason. ;)

I liked the paper coupons too.  The big reason why I prefer the paper coupons is because it was much easier to track which discounts you have and which you haven't used yet.

My hope is when Royal iQ gets rolled out to the fleet down the line, the coupons will be all digital and easy to track in the app.

I agree...while it may be "greener" to have the paperless benefits, most people simply do not have any idea what their bennies are, so they fail to use them. I think this is by design to be honest. I know that they are supposed to provide you with a list of the benefits to which you are entitled but I have NEVER gotten this list delivered to my room on the first day when I was in a non-suite, the way it is supposed to be. I have always had to go down to Guest Services and pick up a copy. The only time I ever get this list is when I am in a suite. The track record is 100% of the time, failing to get this list provided to me.

I think there was a little slight of hand involved when they went from paper coupons to paperless as well as some of the bennies that we had been getting (mostly involving the casino) just seemed to vanish during the switch-over. This was another example of RCI making such a BIG deal about what a GREAT new plan we were getting when in reality, some of the benefits had been removed.

I absolutely HATE that kind of deceitful marketing.

After looking at all the perks loaded on the seapass cards, did anyone notice that there is very little difference between the levels?

Our last cruise we did not get the perk for any drink discounts, or any specialty coffee discounts, we paid full price. I had to go to guest services 2 times to get the internet discounts and they could not get their computers to acknowledge that we were at the Diamond level so they just credited us the difference. So, this is not as automatic as they tell you. You need to ask and even then they either don't know the discounts and perks or they do not want to give them to you.

Make sure you are at least getting what they tell you, you should get. We are Diamond level (one cruise away from Diamond Plus) and spend thousands everytime we cruise and have to go to guest services (usually at least 2 times) to get the perks. And, the perks amount to what, $10-$20 total.

What a deal. Spend $2-4,000 and get $10-$20 back. Wow, if someone wants to give me $2-4,000, I'll give you back $1,000. Just kidding.

In my opinion, I'll take what I can get.  Tier to tier there is not much change, but gold to diamond is a big change.

Before sailing on RC, my family had sailed on Disney Cruise Line and they give its repeat customers almost nothing compared to these discounts.

agree with Matt - I'd rather give something vs nothing or the same thing- Princess gives their higher levels a full batch

of am liquor bottles and dining credits which are placed in the cabin prior to sailing - But I prefer having all things

loaded in my seapass card - I never remembered my coupons

Hoping they keep adding to it, but with all loyalty problems, once they get too many "loyals" they all

start to change them not in our favor it seems

It's unfortunate that Celebration has had repeated difficulties having his/her benefits applied without Guest Services' intervention. I can honestly say that it is rare for me to have to go to GS to have them "fix" a discount that should have been automatically applied. I have had very good luck with my "BOGOHO" drinks vouchers and the like. The only issue that consistently seems to fail is the internet discount which we have finally just abandoned altogether. It never worked, the service and reception were awful and the peculiar logout function made it almost inevitable that you would lose minutes when you tried to log off...so we just quit trying. But the other bennies have been pretty reliable, not that we use too many of them anyway. I have never been on a Q class or any ship with the new VOOM internet so perhaps it will be better once that is deployed. The truth is though, I go on a cruise to get AWAY from the internet so there's very little incentive for me to seek a highly functional internet anyway.

If I only cruised to take advantage of whatever benefits were being granted then I would be making a pretty poor investment choice. I go on a cruise for the cruise and any benefits are just gravy. I understand the frustration of not getting something to which you are entitled and that is completely normal...but the benefits themselves are almost negligible to me. Maybe it's apathetic cruisers like me that makes RCI jump for joy...

It appears that the 3-4 most appreciated enticements offered are the paid gratuities, drink packages, and some sort of internet package, and/or on-board credit.

It also appears that Royal Caribbean Cruises Limited is testing the market with these items on their Celebrity Cruise ships.

As it turns out, Celebrity is currently testing an all inclusive, with the stateroom pricing, packages (drink package, internet, and gratuities; and/or on-board-credit). This started July 6th. If you don't want the services you can opt out and they then offer $150 pp in on-board-credit.

The 3 items that cruisers have issues with are (in not paticular order or importance) manditory gratuities, internet charges, and drink packages. This appoach deals with those customer concerns and issues.

I would venture to say that these items are the ones that cause RCC LTD the most grief. Currently thier pricing is in line or less than other cruise lines offering similar or like ports and days at sea.

As everyone knows though, nothing is for free. You end up always paying for what is touted as a freebe :(

But if it works, hopefully they will extend this offer to all of RCC LTD's cruise lines. And possibly if this promotion is a huge success, make this a standard for all the new suite perk/benefit program.

Royal Caribbean is a first rate company and should not be bogged down with billing for item after item on top of the cruise charge. Cruise companies have in the past made the same, or now, more money with selling drinks, photos, and making gratuities (tipping) manditory. You book the inexpensive cruise and then when you get off the ship your bill is a shock. And, if you would have just gone for an inclusive cruise it is either less expensive or will less grief than the bill shock at the end.

There will always be the people out there looking for the least expensive cruises (I'm in that catagory), but then there are those looking for cruises that are all inclusive and the most cost effective (I'm in that catagory too).

This should not be turned into the same issue that the airlines have gotten themselves in. The guy sitting next to you, getting the same or better services, paid half what you did. They need to standarize thier billing practices. On cruise ships we have often sat next to people that paid thousands mor for the same catagory room. But again, people tend to gravitate to deals and discounts.

I like all inclusivity, and I also like the ability to pick and choose. Let's hope the new roll-out programs allow both.

I certainly have no insight to such things and I cannot guess what RCI will do but I have a suspicion that they may try a modified the "all inclusive" approach to the suites packages first. These are the customers that would probably be willing to pay more to "get it all". I am a suites guest and I couldn't possibly care less about internet or a beverage package. I probably would use the specialty restaurants if it didn't cost me anything more to eat there and I find gratuities to be a total wash. Unless you're a complete cheap skate you're going to pay the grats one way or the other anyway so including them in your "all inclusive" price is of no particular advantage to me.

I think this whole question goes back to the original point that you made days ago. It's about value. If you THINK you're getting a good deal (or value) then you are more likely to pay cheerfully and if you think you're getting ripped off then you're not going to pay at all.

As we all know, Michael Bayley, the new CEO of RCI comes from Celebrity so it makes complete sense that he might pattern the new RCI programs (whatever they may be) after some successes at Celebrity. What we have now (with RCI and Celebrity) is an "every-man" line (RCI) and an "upscale" line (Celebrity) and Michael Bayley worked pretty hard to see that vision realized [of course, there's the "super upscale" line with Azamara but they really don't figure into this equation that much]. The question is, if they bring RCI more in line with some of the perks that are currently being experimented with on Celebrity (i.e., all inclusive) what will Celebrity then have to do to continue to distinguish itself as the upscale product for RCCL ?

I don't see RCI modeling itself after Celebrity as they are after different markets.  RCI's direct competition in my mind seems to Carnival, NCL and Disney; the play for Port Canaveral and the movement of ships their speaks to the later.  Celebrity seems to market itself a bit upscale and that's what I think this new approach is meant to solidify.  Given that their drink packages are different--Celebrity's is better--I don't see RCI falling in line as their are cruisers who simply aren't interested in the beverage packages or internet if it is golfing to cost them more.  There have been several times I've walked off the ship without a double-digit bill or even a refund due to me.  Of course, this was because I prepaid the gratuities.  However, unless the other lines do this, I don't foresee RCI doing it as they will lose new, price conscious customers as they will be the most expensive in comparison.

In most cases, RCI is more expensive than its direct competition; rightfully so since they offer more onboard.  Perhaps we'll see after the Majesty sails with its free internet.  However, I think this "perk" is to compete with the Norwegian Sky that is offering the same 3/4 night sailings and will begin offering free alcohol onboard as their perk.  It will be interesting if Carnival responds.  If so, this competition, which has already led to better ships and onboard amenities, could lead to a more inclusive cruise experience.

  • 1 month later...

Looks like they are changing everything again.

Have been told that the Diamond lounge (or what ever the new name for the lounge will be) will only be for Diamond+ and above after January 2016.

There are just too many Diamonds, they are now very common, so reduce the freebies.

Maybe they will combine the Diamond Lounge with the Suite Lounge?

One thing is certain, concentration is changing to the the Suite cruisers and the Diamond + and above cruisers.

It's already even worse than that on the Oasis and I assume, the Allure as well. When we cruised on the O in Jan it was our first cruise as D+. We were so excited to finally get to go to the Concierge lounge only to find that there WAS no longer a Concierge lounge...just a Diamond Lounge and a Suites lounge. The Suites lounge only allows gold card holders - Grand Suite and above and Pinnacles.

So on the a Oasis class even the D+ have been downgraded.

This decision (by RCI) is what has forced us to suites only, which is, I assume, their plan. It worked for us. NOW with the new a Suites tiers I fear that some of the Suites perks for GS are going to vaporized too. I just can't seem to catch a break. As one writer said earlier, if I did not have SO much time and money already invested with RCI, I would jump ship - pun intended.

Where did you read/hear this?

As long as Diamond continues to get those daily free drinks at any bar, I'd be okay with it.
