Sometimes alcohol can be purchased for cheaper on an island than onboard the ship. But the same rule applies, if you buy onboard or on an island it will be kept and delivered to your room on the last night of the cruise for you to take home. As long as it's not manufactured in Cuba, or illegal (as absinth was for a long time), yes. I'd suggest buying something local, something you can't get at home. You help out the local folks that way, and you also get something that will remind you of your cruise with every sip back at home. The only exception is - pick up something distilled in an "insular United States Territory" - i.e., the US Virgin Islands. If you purchase one liter of product from there, you're allowed another 4 from anyplace else duty free.
