Disembarkment question

Recommended Posts

We do self disembarkation all the time now.   No overnight bag and no  waiting for your number to be called. You are the first off the ship as soon as it is cleared by customs.    Waiting for your number to be called could take up to 2 hours.

And from the opposite perspective ... we never do self disembarkation anymore ... sleep in a bit, take our time over breakfast without fighting to find space for our luggage etc and then by the time we are done we have almost always had our number called and stroll off when we are ready.

If you do self, do you need to be out of the room by a certain time, or could you leave luggage in room, go eat breakfast, and then come back to the room, get  luggage, and self-disembark?

Generally yes.  They do want everyone out of the cabins typically by 8am (varies by ship & port).  In this sense there is no distinction between self disembark and scheduled debarking.  They have hundreds of cabins to prepare and ideally they want to get started as soon as possible regardless if you are self assist or not.

For our Grandeur cruise that ended yesterday, we ate breakfast as soon as they opened the MDR (6:45 AM), went back to our room and gathered our things and walked off the ship at around 7:30.  We walked directly up to Customs and were off the ship in 5 minutes.

They do expect you to be out of your room by 8AM as Twanbot noted.   If I recall seeing the schedule correctly, I think they were allowing walk-offs until around 8:30 at which time they would start calling luggage tag numbers.

Yesterday's was one of the easiest disembarks we have ever had.  Only the Genie made it more enjoyable !

In June, Empress docked at Terminal J in Port Miami.  Self-assist was not available.  Everyone had to bring out their luggage on the last night.  With that being said, it was the smoothest disembarkation experience I have ever had.  15 mins tops from the time our number was called to ordering an Uber to the airport.
