masterdrago
Not sure what kind of Verizon coverage we will get when cruising from Seward to Vancouver. Any thoughts?
fonemanbob
I would be willing to bet slim and none. A satellite phone works great. Then again not too many of them around for use.
NS8VN
There is virtually zero cell phone coverage between cities in Alaska, it's all wide open wilderness.

So, no Eagles flying around with cell antennae. Pretty sure I'll go with a Voom drink package NS8VN
twangster
When purchasing Voom in Alaska, just understand it's not like Voom in the Caribbean. Satellite coverage in Alaska (even for locals who want DirecTV or Dish) is not like it is in the lower 48. You will have normal moments, many bad moments and everything in between at various times. In port don't expect the same LTE speeds you get at home. There is coverage in most ports (but not much coverage outside of port) and speeds won't be like at home for cellular. Any thoughts? Good time to ask this question, since Matt has a group cruise there right now! You may have to wait until the get back to get more than what Twangster offered. If you post your cell provider, someone with that same one may be able to chime in when they return.
whitsmom
I will be on the Radiance July 13th. I have AT&T but I also got the VOOM. I read several places that AT&T is good in the port area but you never know...

twangster
The Juneau and Skagway areas had decent cell coverage in port. Better than expected on a whale watching excursion in Juneau. Skagway was fine close to the town but that's it. A mile or two out of town and zilch.
masterdrago
Thanks all that replied. I'll most likely do Voom since I want to use my iPad for email and and Joy has a FB fix. whitsmom
Matt
To me it was better than nothing, but often times it was nothing
