Were you on deck leaving Juneau?  Perhaps I captured your from Explorer as you sailed past.

We were in our balcony - mid-ship on deck 9 on the side of the ship you photographed - as we pulled out! On my phone now but when I get on the computer tomorrow I’ll see if I can magnify the picture and find my wife and I!

Sorry we didn’t catch up with you in Juneau or Skagway. Maybe the 2020 GC....

We arrived and our bags were outside our cabin. We moved bags in and then it was time for muster and then went to dinner. We had a 6:15 PM reservation for My Time Dining. While there was quite a line we got to our table in the Cascades dining room in a timely manner. We had the calamari and shrimp cocktail appetizers. Both were good though shrimp was small and only 4. We followed up with prime rib which was delicious and I had the pistachio ice cream for dessert which was very good.

After dinner we roamed around the boat, unpacked, spent time on the balcony taking in the views as pulled out of Seward and then I made a donation at the casino at the blackjack table. We turned in pretty early with our 1st day of our 1st cruise under our belt.

Again - this blog is priceless. I was answering people's questions and felt like I knew my way around enough to find most of the places. My sister-in-law and her husband were on the ship a few hours before us so they showed us around, too!

What time was your muster drill? We have reservations for Izumi at 530 pm. I'm wondering how they're going to make that work.

They kept and scanned in their cruise compass which Matt has posted here:

Thank you @KJ1231 for doing that, I've already been using them to prepare for my upcoming cruise.

The cruise compass states muster at 6pm.  I'd suggest altering a 5:30pm Izumi reservation on day one.

@twangster Do you think changing it to 6:30pm is enough time? What if they call the muster drill at 6:30? Will they hold that rezi or is it gone? Just looked at the Cruise Compass you referenced. Interesting that they would even have 5:30 and 6:00 pm booking available.

@KJ1231 will likely have a better perspective having just sailed her.  I can weigh in after my cruise at the end of August.  Izumi straight after muster may be a good strategy but getting there with the typical post-muster everyone-in-the-elevator at once thing going on might be a struggle.

Depending where you are coming from and how long you will be in Alaska before day one, your stomach may be still in a different time zone.  Consider that in making reservations.

@twangstergood thoughts. We will be flying into ANC on Tuesday to do more fishing in the area as our own pre-cruise itinerary. Will be taking the morning train to Seward on Friday. Looks like muster was at 5:45pm. I think I'll remain in a holding pattern with the 6:30. Couldn't stand it! Changed it to 7:00pm. Will hang in CL nosh and drink (minimally, of course) until our Izumi rezi. My poor cruise planner calendar has taken a beating, lately!?

How was the Tracy's King Crab Shack experience?

I'll be with some friends next year that would love a crab feast.  Does it require reservations?  Good seafood?  Worth the price?

When you walk over to Tracy's, by the entrance you can look over the half wall and see the HUGE crab legs. I didn't get a picture of the menu. We were only there for crab legs as that is my wife's favorite. You get 1 HUGE crab leg for $20 or you can buy a "bucket" of them. The crab legs were delicious. I also had the chowder which was good and root beer on tap which is a treat for me. I would do it again.

There are no reservations. You order as you walk in and then find a place to sit. They bring you your order when it's ready. My brother-in-law heard that Tracy's is actually owned by RC (along with Diamond International?).

I'm not sure about the specialty restaurants. We didn't have a lot of time between the time we boarded and muster. We went to our rooms and unpacked our bags by which time the horn blew for muster. We "mustered" and then went directly to the MDR. There was a pretty long line but we were seated pretty quickly. I don't think they were verifying times at that point - just looking to see if you had a reservation at or before the current time. For a specialty restaurant I think you made the right move....

@KJ1231 What time of day did you go in and did you have trouble finding a place to sit? I would think it would be quite busy.

The length of the line varied. We did the whale watching and Mendenhall glacier excursion early. When we got back to the pier we walked aroudn town for a little while and then caught up with  my in-laws and then went to Tracy's. The place is not real big but we had not problem getting our own table outside. The turnover is pretty quick since people want to walk around Juneau . While they have a beer, it is not a "bar" so people tend to "eat and run". The tram "terminal" is about a block away so there are people coming and going all over the pier. I guess it will also depend on how many ships are docked that day. We were there with twangster/Explorer and another smaller ship that was using water taxis. If the line is a little long, maybe walk around town and come back.....
