"The Casino: All You Didn't Know"

Recommended Posts

Hi Jill, I am Stephanie the person Matt was talking about. So Yes I am a Casino Royale Club VIP member. The way you get this is by spending a lot of money in the Casino. I got in about 5 years ago when I had some money to burn and I qualified to get in the club. The great thing is I never spend as nearly as much as I did that one time but they don't kick you out of the club once your in your in. So you get Casino rates when booking also you can earn money of next cruises but I never saw them just give away a free cruise like on carnival. So here is the other thing in April they are about the change the whole way the run the VIP program so in april once I know more I will post more info...

As Stephanie said, the program is undergoing a complete switch-o, change-o. For the past few years, the RCCL Club Royale VIP program has been great. Free drinks in the casino, cash rebates, stateroom discounts, waiving of the 5% convenience fee, perpetual qualification (no re-qualification required)....but I expect all of that to change fairly significantly with the induction of the new tier-based system. If it works like the NCL program (and I will assume that it will be modeled after the NCL system since everything else that RCCL is changing seems to be following along with NCL's innovations) then I expect most all of these perks will be available only to the highest tier levels...which, by the way, I will never be !

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. They certainly aren't telling us anything. It's probably going to be one of those great RCCL "surprises" where they waive the big red banner in one hand, telling us all that we're SOOO lucky to be getting this GREAT NEW PROGRAM, while with the other hand, they are taking benefits and perks away, hoping we won't notice.

So...bottom line...the program is pretty good right now, but I look for all of that to change very soon.

Thank you for your replies.. sounds like the Casino is going through changes.. so I guess we will see what Royal comes up with.. One thing for sure, I know Carnival makes it easy for one to get great "perks" from the Casino,, hopefully Royal will do the same :)

I'm also a Club Royale member, and I just returned from a cruise on Independence of the Seas.

The new program appears to be trickling out already.

Toward the end of the cruise, I was approached by the casino host who told me that I had "won" (a poor choice of words) a free cruise due to my play that week. On the last night, I picked up the certificate and I was quite disappointed.

It's not a good offer, in my opinion. It has a list of about thirty cruises (mostly 3/4-night cruises on Majesty or Enchantment and a few on Adventure or Jewel out of San Juan) over the next three months from which to choose (or $700 toward any other cruise of my choice in that same period). This "free" (pay taxes, gratuities, etc.) cruise must be booked within just two weeks of receiving the certificate.

Although the extant Club Royale program has its benefits, I believe that NCL's Casinos at Sea program is better geared toward the casino cruiser.

Wow...thanks for the intel, Marc. I completely agree with you. VERY poor offer. As I noted in another thread, even a TRUE "free" cruise isn't really free, but this offer is really an insult, IMO.

So are you to assume, then, that you will not be receiving any future cash rebate for your recent play on the Indy ? ...I mean, like we have been receiving...on your next cruise...however far in the future that is ? I guess that must be what the $700 is all about....but you only have 3 months to use it and must be booked within 2 weeks. That is really pathetic. Perhaps it wouldn't be SO bad if they did not have the severe time limitations.

Well, I guess this is what we have to look forward to. NCL is looking better and better.

Thanks for the post. Keep 'em comin'

It's my understanding that the rebate part of the program will continue until sometime in March 2016. So, I'm expecting a rebate from this cruise that would be theoretically in addition to the "free" cruise that I "won".

Well, that's good news. I hope that's the case. I also hope that you can take advantage of your "free" cruise and/or your other ($700) cash rebate. I probably would not be able to go again so soon.

I also thought I understood that the cash rebate program was supposed to continue through March 2016 so that's why I was confused. If you get both then - AWESOME !

Let us know...
