Dennis M
It is my understanding that the casino charges a fee of 5% when you purchase casino chips using your sail card. If you bring cash to purchase the chips, there is no charge. Is this correct? Also, does the 5% fee apply when you use your sail card at the slot machines? TIA. I tried searching the RC webpage but couldn't find the information regarding the casino fee.
coneyraven
Yes --- when you use cash, no fees ..... just use your Seapass Card so you can get the points as you play..... basically just like a land based casino

Unlike Carnival, on RCCL you cannot use your Seapass card to get "credits" to play the slots. You must use cash only at a slot machine (the single exception is at the end of the cruise if you are given free play as a result of your accumulated points). If you purchase either cash or chips at the cashier's cage or at a table, you will be charged 5% (they call it a "convenience fee") unless you are a Club Royale VIP player at the Prime Tier or higher. Actually, I'm not sure you CAN even purchase cash at the cashier's cage anymore. You used to be able to do that but now I think what they do is give you a voucher for whatever amount of credits you want and you must then take that voucher to a machine and use it there. tiny260
Welcome @Dennis M, @WAAAYTOOO and @coneyraven are the best, my understanding is exactly as they have explained. I'm not a big gambler so I lean on them a bunch. janza
Dennis M
Thanks, @coneyraven @WAAAYTOOO . Glad to know we won't be paying a fee for using our own cash. I believe not using the Seapass card for funds at the slots may be a money saver. I can understand why they charge a fee for purchasing the chips and cash using the Seapass card. If they didn't, people would be using the casino cage as a fee-free ATM. @tiny260 I am learning a lot about RCCL on this board. I have only been on one cruise and it was on Carnival. I am looking forward to being on royal for our cruise to Alaska. It will be a break from the hot Oklahoma summer coming our way.

I have a land cruise in June to Destin, Fl and then a cruise on Liberty (Out of Galveston) in July with our oldest Grandson, we usually drive, Galveston is an 8 hour drive from Tulsa, our Grandson has taken a lot of trips with Mom and Dad, but never a road trip, so this will be a double experience for him. Don't hesitate to ask questions, I have never been on an Alaska cruise but plenty of people on the blog have.
