Deluxe Beverage Package Cost for Diamond Members

We are cruising the Harmony of the seas at the end of May and this will be our first Diamond cruise. I had a question about the Deluxe Beverage package cost. I know normally it is cheaper to purchase this on the cruise planner before the sailing, but do Diamond members receive better discounts for this package on board? Thanks for the help!

Welcome to the message boards!

No drink package discount for Diamond, only Diamond Plus.  If you are thinking about the drink package, buy it before boarding.

I just made D+ on my last cruise.  Once I made Diamond I stopped buying the drink package.  Diamond happy hour starts at 4:30pm and runs until 8pm (some ships 5:00pm to 8:30pm).  During that time the Diamond lounge has free drinks from a special happy hour menu.  In most bars around the ship you get three drinks from the same Diamond Happy Hour menu.  Between the two I get more than enough evening drinks.

As a Diamond that tips the scale to make the drink package unattractive to me.  I can buy a couple of beers and/or frozen something in the afternoon for $20-25.  That gets me through to Diamond happy hour.  I call this the modified drink plan - $25 per day and I'm set.  Keep in mind there are one time BOGO or 20% off beer/wine coupons loaded on your SeaPass card as well.

Here is the Diamond Happy Hour Drink Menu

You can order mixed drinks, like a bloody mary, vodka tonic, martini, etc, but it will be New Amsterdam vodka.

No frozen drinks.

Bottled water is available and I sometimes grab one with each drink order to stock my room with bottled water.

For me that's enough to live without the drink package.  YMMV.

Last cruise on Allure I purchased the alcohol package, but I won't be doing it again in all likelihood.  I sailed with my sister and she is Diamond and I am Diamond Plus.  I purchased the package online at 20% off even though if I did so onboard, it would have been 30% off, but it wasn't worth it to me to have to stand in line at guest services.  I really didn't use the package enough for it to be worth it to me.

We went to the DL and I had a couple of drinks nightly, and then had wine with dinner.  I could have used my 3 free drinks at dinner as we used the Specialty restaurants all week and had dinner at 6:30 nightly.  Rarely did I have a drink during the day.  I did get a few bottles of water daily and could have gotten soda, which I don't drink with the package.  I probably averaged a drink per night in the casino.

Now, my next cruise is with my son and his family and they have only cruised once on Royal Caribbean.  It may be worth more this cruise as I won't be going to the DL at all.  I have to think it through and decide if it's worth my while or not.  I know I won't be bringing bottles of water on the ship with me, so I will have to decide soon.  I do like the flavored waters on the ship, but am too lazy to have to hunt down the machines that have them.

Thanks for the info on the Diamond and above happy hour.

I am curious about the 3 drinks that you get from other bars.  Is this in addition to the happy hour in the lounge, or as a replacement?

Can you for example drink during the happy hour in the lounge, and then move to another bar where you can continue to drink using the 3 additional drinks?

Cheers

Yes, but those 3 drink coupons only cover the same time span as the Happy Hour, so take that into account.

I will regularly get a glass of wine at the Happy Hour first thing, then go to dinner and use my coupons there.

Hi @twangster, I'm quoting your post from 2018.  I read somewhere that frozen drinks are now offered during the Diamond Happy Hour.  Is that true?

For diamond happy hour on some ships virgin frozen drinks are being offered.  It's a recent addition as Royal's Crown and Anchor Society continue to improve the diamond and above happy hour benefits.  It's unclear if all ships are participating but that is the hope.

Cool!  My sailing on the Oasis in May gets me to Diamond, so I could enjoy this perk on the Odyssey Inaugural in November.
