Countdown-T minus 10 days!-SUPER EXCITED-HAVE QUESTIONS!

Recommended Posts

Please indulge me!  We are on Grandeur of the Seas on May 5th in a Grand Suite.  Now, to give some background, I was a TA and in the hotel business for 20 years. Back then cruise lines gave you a discounted rate of $25.00 per person per day (yes that's right! ) HOWEVER, you weren't confirmed till 10 days out and you always got the dregs of cabins. I never knew what a port hole looked like other than sneaking peeks into a cabin door that might have been open! and of course back then (oh my, I think I'm dating myself!) there were no such things as Balconies!  This is my husbands first cruise and we are so excited to able to share this NEW experience together now that it's a reality.  I started out with a shorter cruise on a smaller ship close to home for his first cruise (mobility issues taking into account too). I saw our exact cabin on another website and it's beautiful!  Hubby is super excited about sail away and has some questions so hoping @WAAAYTOOO or @coneyraven or any others that have sailed out of Baltimore, how long after Sailaway do we go under the Bay Bridge? And how long till we go over the Chesapeake Tunnel Bridge? He wants to be able to see both.

We've been checked in since day 90, luggage tags are printed and in their holders (thank you Bloggers for the tip from Amazon!), magnets are here, Norovirus wipes all set too, Set Sail Pass printed, unlimited drink package, 2 Voom's Chops for dinner 2nd night out.  We are really only in Bermuda for about 25 hours so planning on taking ferry to Hamilton when we dock and next day on RC Mini bus tour excursion) (We are going back to Bermuda in September so figured this is a good way to determine what we want to do then).  Am I missing anything?

Do you think they will do something for Cinco de Mayo??

Thank you all of you who have put up with my stupid questions all these months! (and I still don't get that Voom thing! LMAO!) This Blog has been the best and I feel like I'm friends with so many now.

Thank you @Matt for all you do!

The Key Bridge is about an hour after you pull away from the dock ..... The Bay Bridges are about 2 hours later ....

Assuming you pull away at 4:00, the Key Bridge will be a 5:00, Bay Bridges at 6:00 ---- The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel won't be until around 11:00 or 12:00 that night.

The Key Bridge is insane, people cheer as you go under it.

Lorraine, I am so excited for you !!  I do have a special place in my heart for Grandeur as it was my first Royal Caribbean ship (then sailing out of Tampa) and b/c of our proximity to Baltimore, we cruise on her rather frequently these days (4 booked currently).

Such a good question about the bridges !  I should know this.  I know for sure that they don't leave the Chesapeake Bay (so...the Chesapeake Tunnel bridge) until fairly late the first night b/c they don't open the casino at all on the first night.  It's very sad that everything I know is based on the casino's schedule.

Hopefully someone else (ConeyRaven ??) will have a better memory than me !

Mark, another "stupid question", on the TV in the stateroom, do they have something like GPS/locations of the ship while you're sailing? Hubby said if we aren't awake going over chesapeake we can set out alarms! LOL ( he loves that bridge as we go to the Outer Banks every year and it really is an eighth wonder of the world if you think about it.

Yes, they have a channel on the TV that shows approximately where you are on a map, the heading and speed, I don't know for sure if it is "Real time" or a slight delay. It is actually my station I tune to when I'm in the room.

@twangster do you know if it is real time?

Now that I find fascinating! Subway maps.  I"ve never heard of anyone collecting those but you probably know every city, every route for the best times, locations etc. If the city you visit doesn't have a subway do you collect the maps of the city themselves?  Hubby was Special Ed Teacher, but his first major (till his father said what are you going to do with that) was 15th and 16th Century European History) plus he was a sailor owning a sailboat for 20 years, so he has to look at every battle he's reading about, a map of the stars etc.

So yes you two would get along just fine! LOL

Pretty sure it is very close to real time.  At least approaching a port it tracks speed very closely.

One small thing to think about is if you have cell phones is put them on airplane mode or turn them off before you get off shore.  There are horror stories out there about some people getting hit up big time fees with international roaming charges.

We went on Navigator of the Seas two years ago over Cinco de Mayo.  Obviously it was quite busy in Sabor that night.  Other than maybe a mexican theme to the Windjammer, I'm not sure what else would occur.
