Vee2525
Hello, Going on a cruise soon! In May 2018. So excited but wanted to know has anyone used cash deposit for onboard expense account, and how does that work? Is there a minimum amount needed for a 7 day cruise? Also any insight into on board expense account and anything u think I should know before cruising would be appreciated.
RestingBird
No minimum limit that I'm aware of, but there is a Max of $500 I believe. If I remember correctly, if you spend that $500 a few days in, you can add more cash to the account. We did that for our first 3 cruises I think, now we just use the Royal Caribbean credit card. RestingBird
Just now, rjac said: IMO, the best way to go. Or, use any credit card you may have. Welcome aboard, feel free to ask any questions you may have, but hurry...May is right around the corner! Lucky you. I agree. We've always had some amount of OBC, but once that's used up the RC card gets used on board, which means double points. Once we start cruising more the RC card might get ditched, but for now with 1 or 2 cruises a year I'm able to get some OBC from what I spend in between cruises. For @Vee2525, another thought is have some small bills for tips on board, and on shore. Vee2525
RamblingRandie
If you don't use all the cash in your onboard account by the end of the cruise, go to guest services to settle your account and they will refund you the money not spent. Vee2525
Specifically I would love to know if I put 500$ cash deposit and spend 100$ will they freeze my on board expense account until I put another 100$. Is 500$ minimum balance needed everyday and you can't go below 500$ during the duration of the Cruise? My boyfriend has the unlimited alcohol package and I have the refreshment package. We also booked a cabana at cococay as an excursion. And paid for a couples message for a sea day. Just wondering in case we want to buy something on the boat will they call us to guest services if you go below 500$??

So you can put in up to $500, your account will draw form that. If you use it all, then you can add more. I don't knwo if that $500 max is correct or not, but that is what the comment said. monctonguy
You don't need to put any down with a cash account....simply once your balance gets to $500(I thought it was $400 before) they will "freeze" your account until you make a payment towards it. MaryCS62
Last cruise, we had used credit card for me & DH, but put cash down in the account for DD's (they were in a separate room), this way they couldn't "overspend" . It's a good way to limit spending if you use cash. However, this cruise (coming up in May!!), we got the deluxe drink package for 3 (4th can't have alcohol, so got the refreshement pkg for her), so we probably won't be spending too much on board, & have credit card for all of us Vee2525
Guest toodle68
Just remember that going to guest services at the end of the cruise can be a nightmare. Lots of angry people and long lines.

I just realized that this thread has NOTHING to do with OBC. Old brain. Vee2525
