Age difference in kids

Recommended Posts

My daughters are 24 and 14.  We will be on the Oasis soon.  They will want to do everything together as they are really close. The 14 yr old is very mature and by looking at them you would never guess them to be 10 yrs apart.  In fact the 14 yr old is a bit taller than the 24 yr old and also the 24 yr old is still a kid at heart.   I'm afraid the 14 yr old wont be allowed to do whatever things the 24 yr can do and the 24 yr old wont be allowed to do whatever things the 14 yr old can do.  I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?  Also wondering if the 14 yr old would be allowed into the solarium with all of us (sister, mom and dad) without problems (as she is looking forward to the hot tub overlooking the ocean). Thanks in advance for any suggestions as well.

Welcome to the boards! I have an 11 year old difference between my oldest and youngest although the oldest is only 18 now so I'm not quite in your scenario.

The solarium rules state 16 and above. It is completely up to you if you want to take a chance and allow her in the hot tub with you. The worst that can happen is someone asks her to leave. If that will upset you, then you should chose another pool area and hot tub to avoid the scenario and find things that you all can do together.

Most things are family friendly and there are only a handful of 18+ events later at night. The only thing your 24 year old can't do is go to the teen club and do the teen sponsored activities. They can go to bingo, trivia, karaoke, flowrider, zipline, shows (except the comedy club which is 18+) together. RC doesn't frown upon kids in bars unless it is the late night dance parties which will specify 18+.

I think that you will find that there is plenty of activities that they can do together.

Thanks for the info!  Also we are in a Star class suite so I didn't know if that makes a difference in activities as well.

I don't think Star class has its own activities except the top tier events. Star Class will have your genie make reservations for the shows, etc. I believe it also allows you a priority line for things like the flowrider. You'll also have access to the suite sundeck, etc.

Star class will not allow your older daughter into the teen events. It is a legal and liability issue.

Could you sneak your minor child into adult events? Probably. Would you really want to? That is the question. For example, there is no way I'd allow my 15 yo son in the comedy club. There were 2 17 yos in the Star class seating when I went to the comedy club on Harmony a few weeks ago. First, star class seating is in the front and the comedians harassed the parents for allowing the underage kids in there. The kids didn't leave but the comedians didn't change their routines either. IMHO, the material isn't appropriate for younger children. In fact, I felt slightly uncomfortable sitting next to my 18yo daughter during certain parts.

Ohhh no no no...we will not be going to the adult comedy shows with either of our girls! :) I really did not want my youngest to go into anything not her age except the hot tub that extends over the side.  And my oldest probably would prefer not to go into the tweens are lol.  I was just hoping there is enough for them to do together.  Thanks for the info!!!!

Well that's a relief!  I don't think the hot tub is a really big deal and I would do it especially if you are there. I don't think anyone would care if a teen is there talking to her family. There isn't anyone checking sea pass cards to see if they are of age. My son went to the gym even though he technically can't go by himself until he is 16. He looks much older but no one said anything especially since he is there to work out and not goof around.

Have you looked at the Cruise Compasses to get an idea for the daily activities? I think you will be surprised how much they can do together...in fact there is so much to do they won't be able to do it all!

Completely agree re: comedy club.  The shows were very raunchy. I was even a little embarrassed. Definitely not appropriate for young ones.  My Genie specifically asked if we wanted to sit up front or elsewhere.  We did sit up front but only Jim was harassed but that was his own fault.  He asked for it.  The comedians left me and Dan alone, thankfully.

Ohhh up front in a comedy club is risky! HAHA   No comedy club plans, no bar plans, just plain family time fun for us!

The cantilevered hot tubs on Oasis aren't in the Solarium.  They are just outside the doors to the Solarium so anyone can use them.
