Casino Royale - the end of an era

Recommended Posts

I’m currently sailing on Enchantment and when I introduced myself to the host I was informed of the fact that we all start from scratch and I receive NOTHING (no free drink sticker, no nothing) based on our past years of play. I was told that we need to earn a tier and must start over. Anyone else had this issue? I am seriously considering abandoning the program. I thought we were supposed to be “mailed” a tier and would start from there????? Not the case. I am not happy. After years of spending double (or more then double) the cruise fare in the casino I am out.

I believe you that the host said this but how can this be? Just today in the mail I got a list of free cruises that not only offered a comp room but says I get free drinks in the casino. I have been on Enchantment many times and since its a 3 nighter they always seem to get things wrong. I hope in this case they are 100% wrong because I will be pissed if when I get on board I don't have my 5% fee waved. I'm not a big drinker so I don't really care about that but I care about my 5% fee. I am going to call club Royale in the morning and see what they say because I agree with you if this is the case I am going to be so pissed!!

I’m really pissed. I’m used to the red carpet from them. I’m currently spending $9 per red stripe beer that I used to get for free. PS: I also just paid $25.00 to take out $500 from the cage instead of going upstairs and waking my kids up. This is total BS

Please update me. As soon as I get off this ship I’m calling the CR number and having a chat.

At the past I have heard they said the tier level will be based on cruises you have done between July 2016 and Dec 2017 ,

Not sure what happen but I guess base on the way they roll out the new site they had some issue to calculate the tier level so they have done the easiest solution start from 0 . If this is the case its a total unfair.

The only way to handle will be to let them know how unhappy we are and to play less , they are doing allot of money from the casino , if they will start to see recline in the revenue  due to this behavior maybe they will get the message

Boarding Allure tomorrow. If they tell me that I am starting at zero they’re going to have 2 very very very unhappy passengers.  I will report back.

Tony,  I don’t blame you for being upset. This NOT what we have been promised.

I am debating my presence in the casino tonight. WAAAYTOOO please keep us in the loop. I am hoping this all boils down to a casino host who is misinformed.

Tony, just can’t help but think that this is a piss-poor host that doesn’t want to do any work to find out the truth.  I cannot believe that after ALL we’ve been promised about the new program that they would tell, you, “so sorry.  After unpteen years of loyal patronage and 10’s of thousands of dollars wagered you’re going back to the same level as a first time cruiser who has never stepped foot in a Casino Royale before.”  This has me very concerned.  Like Stephanie, the most important perk for us is the waiving of the convenience fee.  We do not bring cash with us. We get our cash from the casino and play with their money.  If they tell us what they told Tony, it will truly ruin our cruise.  Will know tomorrow!  Better luck tonite, Tony. I would certainly push this all the way.  I can’t believe they are correct.

I’m truly upset. It ruined my cruise experience. I’m just glad I found out on a 3 day sailing instead of one of the longer Oasis class sailing we have coming up. At least now I’m prepared. I find it to be a complete slap to the face and I won’t spend my money anymore in this horrific and unorganized mess of a program.

I do visit the casino on board but wager very little so this  doesn’t impact my cruise experience.  But I will say this, with a lot of the loyalty benefits being diminished and nickel and diming lately, this is last group I would be messing with.  The Casino Royale members, especially the big players,  probably add a ton of revenue to the bottom line of a sailing.  I wouldn’t want to mess with these folks!  I hope it is misinformed host.

I too had been told it would be an 18 month look back to determine new program status.

if it helps, my experience has been that the host on Enchantment is the worst of all the Casino Royale hosts i have encountered.

Disembarked Indy on Mar 28 with a free balcony cert and had free drinks/waived fees the entire time.

Update.  All of the normal casino perks are available on Allure this week.  We got the famous “sticker” on our Seapass cards on day 1 at a special meet and greet event associated with the blackjack and slots tourneys that are happening on this cruise.  The hostess also told us that we would know our tier level before the cruise was over.  So, Tony, I’m both sorry and delighted to tell you that your casino host is both lazy and misinformed on Enchantment.  I hope this was finally rectified before your cruise was over.

We have gotten gifts every day from the casino.  We got champagne and chocolate covered strawberries on day 1 and more chocolate covered strawberries today.  I wish everyone would quit sending food !  Our dining room table is covered with goodies that we are never going to eat.  I hate wasting food !

Afraid that both Dan and I (as was Jim) were eliminated from the $25K BJ tourney in the first round.  ?? but that didn’t surprise me at all (at least for me) as I suck at blackjack.  I did outlast Dan though ?? I made it to the final hand and went “all in” and lost.  Stupid tournament anyway  ??

So it looks like the program is still in it final stages of completion but at least on Allure, seems to be progressing as we were promised.  I hate that they totally missed the mark on Enchantment.

A brief update for all....I was on the phone with Club Royale today to price/book another cruise.  Since the program is in transition, Anna and I talked about lots of the changes.  She did tell me that people are being notified on a rolling wave of their new tier status. She looked at my profile to see what offers I had available and could see that my new tier status had not been entered so the rolling wave had not caught me yet.  She also confirmed that GS and above should not be given the Casino rate, but only the promo rate that is currently in play, but under the new rules you can combine Crown and Anchor discounts with Casino discounts.

On the personal good news I was looking to combine an email offer of a free interior, a casino certificate worth $1000 for me, and another for $500 for my wife on Oasis this September.  Unfortunately, she couldn't use my email offer and certificate together...but she did get me the casino rate instead of the promo rate.  In the end, she came in below my estimate and we got a Crown Loft Suite in September for 7 days for under $1400 and I still have my $1000 certificate to use on another sailing this year.  So, the program still has some really good perks, if you ask the right questions and get a host that will work with you.  Enjoy.

I hope you have an awesome time on your cruise! We sail Allure at the end of May! I called Club Royale and they confirmed that I do in fact have status and that the host on Enchantment was completely misinformed. The manager credited my account for the drinks I had in the casino and all the 5% fees for cash withdraws out of the cage which was nice. I seriously considered abandoning the program and starting with NCL but I will give it another shot on Allure next month.

Can that be correct, a crown loft suite for $1400 or $14,000? That’s a heck of a deal! Enjoy it! I just received my tier “signature”. Not sure what the Enchantment host was briefed on but I’m guessing there will be many upset casino guests from my sailing. The Manager mentioned people are calling left and right complaining about the same issue I had this past weekend.

After reading Tony and Raye's updates I feel much better. That host on Enchantment should be fired in my opinion. It sounds like the ruined many peoples cruise. I personally have always had problems with the hosts on Enchantment. It seems to me they put their least experienced and unfriendliest hosts on Enchantment for some reason. I'm very glad to hear that Tony got a refund. I hope that if I call club Royale this week they will know what my tier is I'm just dying to know lol

Would this be the Oasis sailing on 9/2? I got an offer for a comped room on that. It was for an interior and I was hoping to upgrade.

I wish we could combine the email "comped" offers with the certificates. I just got a certificate last week for an Oceanview room but of course none of the dates work for me and its annoying only getting a trade in value of $750. It would be great if I could use it to upgrade all these email offers I am getting

September 9...and the total was $1372.

@tonyfsu21 i was convinced that host was incompetent. I always get a free cruise cert and he provided me a $400 off cert. I didnt care about the discount but i am/was concerned he impacted my tier qualification

That’s seriously amazing for a crown loft suite! I can tell you with absolute certainty that the current casino host on Enchantment is incompetent. With my luck lately he will move to Allure before my May sailing! I doubt that impacted your qualification but if you give CR a call they should have it available. The Tiers are as jacked up as the Enchantment host is. Somehow I am “Signature” but according to the Enchantment host I have no status.... Maybe I’m missing something but after you jump past the entry level and get to “prime” there is no real incentive to progress past that.

I just got off the phone with CR they researched my benefits I had a very helpful young man who compared my rate on my upcoming 2 cruises in oct and nov 18 he said I was getting a great rate on oct the brilliance and he could not offer me better my nov cruise he saved me a whopping 13.00 but I took it its more money to gamble with he then told me I have the waiver for both sailings of the 5% which is important to me but then he told me I was on a list for both cruises which is given to the pit boss to keep his eye on me and my gambling habits for drink certificates and other casino benefits he was not specific what other means but last cruise in January on indy I had the 5% waiver so I guess I will have to wait and see what this list is I don't have a clue it is a shame they cant come up with a simple rating system instead of this BS cruise on my friends

I find the certificates to be nearly useless.  The emailed comp offers are extremely valuable to us as they are cheap to upgrade.  Since the no longer allow us to combine carts and casino rates (or comped rates) then the carts have nearly no value to us.

Totally agree with you Raye. The certificates are basically useless and are always for crappy sailings. I do much better with the emailed/mailed offers or just randomly calling club Royale and having them look at my history and they decide what kind of rate to give me. Thats how I ended up getting another comped cruise just by calling and asking what they could do. I am very interested to hear what tier you end up in so keep us posted. Hope your having fun I love Allure.

Tony, Raye, and Anyone Else,

I spent about 30 minutes on the phone with RCCL Club Royal because I am on the Liberty the first week of May and wanted to know my ranking. Of course, they couldn't tell me. What the representative did tell me is the new ranking system and what each level is called and what you get for the level. I am going to list them below. Just remember this is just one representative's information and somehow it will change with each rep you talk to.

Step 1 is called Choice and you need to get from 1 to 2,499 points on a cruise. With the Choice level you qualify for rewards certificates and point redemption.

Step 2 is called Prime and you need to get from 2,500 to 24,999 points on a cruise. With the Prime level you qualify for the Choice benefits and the convenience fee waived and free drinks in the casino.

Step 3 is called Signature and you need to get from 25,000 to 99,999 points on a cruise. With the Signature level you qualify for the Choice and Prime benefits and priority check-in and one (1) comped device for WiFi and a short comped cruise. Also the rep stated she thought there would be Signature events on the cruise.

Step 4 is called Masters and you need to get 100,000 points on a cruise. With the Masters level you qualify for the Choice, Prime and Signature benefits and two (2) comped devices for WiFi, priority seating pretty much everywhere, usually a 7 day comped cruise, special Masters only events, dining, meetups, etc.

I hope this helps and as I said it is only what one rep told me. Supposedly RCCL is suppose to email all Casino Royale members before their cruise and let them know what their level is and what they qualify for. But if they don't just go to the Casino Host/ess.

Hope this helps. Candie

Candie-

The levels are listed on the CR page but the point accumulation you mention seems really high unless they are changing the way you earn points. To accumulate 100,000 points on a 7 day cruise would mean a MASSIVE amount of cash spent and I just don’t think a cruise ship gets that kind of action.

I just had a strange chat with someone at Club Royale. I was calling up to apply my latest certificate to an upcoming cruise, and she mentioned that just based on the points from my last cruise alone, I'd be Signature.

I know I didn't earn 25,000 points during my last cruise, so it's certainly possible she simply misread the number off her screen and added a digit. Otherwise, I wonder whether they're changing the number of points per dollar wagered. I haven't seen anyone else say that, so my basic assumption is that she made a mistake.

Yeah I’m really confused. This whole program is still a headache. Sounds like it’s working out in your favor though. I am “signature” as well according to the CR phone rep. Not sure how this is gonna go but I will find out at the end of May & report back. PS: it’s REALLY annoying when you get your invoice emailed to you after you get off the ship & they charge you $50.00 for towels that you returned! Must be some kind of racket because this has happened to us twice now.

I don’t think you have to accumulate all the points in 1 cruise.  I think it’s a cumulative deal where you keep adding up your points throughout the evaluation period.  So you may start out at level 1 or 2 but once you accumulate 25k points you graduate to level 3 etc.  that’s the way I understand it anyway.  During the last evaluation period (18 months as I recall), I accumulated 11,667 points which puts me right in the middle of level 2.  I have already qualified for level 2 for the new evaluation period which started April 1. This new evaluation period will run from now until March 31, 2019 and then it all starts over again.  I never expect to get above level 2. I don’t wager enough but I’m ok with that.

I certainly hope some of this is ironed out before I sail on EOS in mid June, especially hope that the above mentioned host is no longer there.  I have no idea what my tier level is, I was oping it would be on my last mailing from CR, but it wasn't. I know I reached the level of outside balcony room the last cruise, but have no idea what that will translate to. Not looking forward to the phone call I need to make before I go.

Get on that phone as quick as you can. I’ve been fighting with them for a week and so far no real resolution. I’m sailing again in May.

Update-

The shoreside CR team has kept me updated and it looks like they are in the process of approving a full cruise fare refund! I also asked that they comp upgrade my May Allure sailing from a grand suite to a crown loft suite. Holding on approval call. It appears as though they are going to make me whole.

Well, you certainly deserve it.  They completely ruined your Majesty cruise.  I hope this all comes through.  Glad you were able to find someone to help you and I hope the Casino host on the Majesty is gone b/c of this.

The saga is over..... refund was issued for the drinks in the casino, convenience fees and the $50 that we were charged for towels that we in fact returned. In addition to the refund, we were given a comped upgrade from a grand suite to a crown loft suite on our Allure sailing next month. I am satisfied with this and CR certainly made me whole. I will return to the casino and give this another try.

I’m getting in on this late, but have to add my two cents. My wife and I are so frustrated and fed up with CR. Every time you turn around they change the rules and it’s always NOT in favor of the player. I’m especially pissed because they NEVER work with me to accommodate my needs. They tell me how they have to follow strict rules and blah blah blah. Then two weeks later my dad tells me they are accommodating his request with no problem. I also see here that people “talk with managers” in CR. I have asked on two or three occasions to speak with a manager. I have ALWAYS been told no, you can send in an email to voice your concerns. My wife and I are so fed up with the casino program since they have ruined it. It used to be extremely player friendly and fair. Now it’s a scam with certificates that we wind up throwing away because we can’t use them as we are not retired and book our cruises in advance. They have made the casino program beneficial to retirees and no one else. I guess they will change it when their players start dying off. I will just go to a land based casino to “bank” my points and get real casino hosting in the process. Did I mention that too? The casino host can’t comp ANYTHING anymore. The only thing that has been consistent from CR are two little words...I’m sorry. That’s all they can say about how crappy the program has become. I’d love to go back to rebates, casino rates for all cruises, and real host benefits and comps. Seems like many on this thread miss those things too.
