RCCL Sales are as bad as Car Dealerships Sales

RBRSKI

God, I just wished they would stop with all the "New" sales they offer!  The only thing changing is the wording which equates to NOTHING.  And then I love when they say "only four hours left"  or "Sales has been Extended"

Please Please Please Marketing and Sales for RCCL, lets start having some real sales!!!!  I would say one every quarter, hell, I would be happy with once a month!

Anyway, Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!!  We leave on the Allure Sunday!!!!!  Sorry about the rant!!!

Thing is it's not just Royal, they all try to trick new cruisers with this sale or this thing is included or some other bonus but when you calculate it, it's still the same price.

They wouldn't trick us,  "Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has been recognized by the Ethisphere Institute as one of the 2018 World's Most Ethical Companies for the third year in a row"

Just look on this blog how many times a new sale is announced!   Oh Well

The sales are really for new cruisers who don't know any better.  The marketing campaigns are aimed to draw attention and they do.  I see newbies on other forums claiming how they just got a cruise on sale.  It's very competitive and Royal is just keeping up with the competition who does the same thing.  I had to unsubscribe from NCL for this reason - spam emails basically.

If you are lonely and desire for your phone to ring, sign into NCL Latitudes, browse some cruises then don't book.  Within 24 hours a cruise specialist will be calling to assist you - guaranteed.    At one point I changed my number in my profile to a bogus number.  Apologies to who ever has 867-5309.

I am trying to think of companies that truly have sales that people respect!  Ok, here goes RBRSKI again with Southwest.  I really have no connection or stock with this company but they have sales that really reflect in the pricing.  Believe it or not, we are taking a non cruise vacation in June to bring our son up to the Navel Academy for a Summer Seminar program.  Four of us one way from FLL to BWI 73 per person INCLUDING TWO PIECES OF LUGGAGE

Southwest's low prices are not so much sale prices as they are just good low prices. Coming from the Cayman Islands we have to fly to FLL with Southwest as that is the only hub they go to. Sale or not the price is always the same (cheaper than anyone else that comes here.) Not saying the prices aren't good by any means. Just in my experience, they have the same sale tactics as everyone.

Wait why was @twangster subscribed to NCL? I thought you were all over RCL now, should have done that a long time ago lol.

My last NCL cruise was in 2001.  In 2016 when I took my 1st RCI cruise I shopped around, re-activated and updated my NCL account.  Didn't take long for me to unsubscribe and put a bogus # in my NCL account.  I peruse it once in while to compare studio rates (which NCL has more of) and comparing cruise costs with their "free" drink packages.  It's good to know the competition so when people point to things like "free drinks" you can respond intelligently.   NCL for the most part has terrible internet plans (most ships).  Now that Carnival has the fastest internet at sea I may need to try that in the name of research :)

Southwest is a different sales model.  As a business traveler they rarely have cheaper prices and are sometimes higher or even close to 1st class on other airlines.  I have taken screen shots of their fares to justify flying 1st class on occasion.

Southwest is cheaper if you book far in advance but oddly their wizbang super cheap fare sales never seem to be for where I want to fly to.  I get free bags with Delta from many different sources, for example having a Delta credit card, and time and again I can fly Delta cheaper or the same price because I don't book business trips many months in advance.

Once in many years Southwest was cheaper which I why I flew them to Houston and Liberty last cruise.  Unfortunately change fees apply to "Wanna Get Away" fares so I got stuck waiting in Hobby for 6+ hours.  The $150 I saved would have been more than lost if I paid the $186 change fee they wanted that day.

I will thank Southwest for keeping the other airlines the same price.  They all price match each other and are constantly watching each other and adjusting fares.

I will have to chime in on your statement "Unfortunately change fees apply to "Wanna Get Away" fares"  You can change without any fee as long as the fare is the same or cheaper then the original booked.  If the fare is higher you have to pay the difference.  We are flying out of SJU for our one way cruise on the Freedom on 5/6 from FLL to SJU.  78 dollars one way, no one could have touch that price.

Anyway, let stick to how we are sick of RCCL with all the "Sales" they offer.  LOL

@twangster so how does it compare price wise with the "free drink" package (also they charge grants per drink).

Once in a while you can get a cheaper fare on NCL.  You really need to look at total cost.  It's another example of when "free" isn't really "free", just included, and you compare the total cost.

Clever marketing though as you see people time and again bragging they got free drinks.

In reality you can shop all cruise lines for deals and find them.  Outliers and anomalies pop up all the time, which is what I try to find.

Right, misleading double speak in my experience.  In reality same days fares are almost always higher than advance wanna get away fares.  Rarely are <$100 fares available on Southwest on the day of travel.  If they were, everyone would just walk up and fly.  An example of car dealership tactics at its finest, keeping in line with your original post.

You know what cruise line may not pull this BS, Virgin Voyages

I haven't seen prices yet but if it was affordable, I'd jump at the chance. One of my all time favorite experiences flying was with Virgin Atlantic. I liked the American Virgin too but VA was a wonderful experience.

Like I said, everyone that I know that has experienced them had the same response.  Just keep in mind it will be adults only(meaning anyone under 18 not allowed).  It's too bad that Virgin America was bought by Alaska Airlines, however, I heard they are also awesome!

Pizza - let's talk about pizza.

mmmm pizza (the gluten-free pizza was the best I have ever had, well if the toppings would stay on lol)

Especially as it relates to gratuity.

Ya, I would like to know more especially if I'm in MTD. If I had the same waiter every night they might have got a bonus gratuity from me for good service but we alternated between a few and I was a little confused how I should have handled it. I did leave extra for my room attendant but still was somewhat confused (even going in with a plan lol).

One thing that really helps in regards to going into BWI --- it is a hub for Southwest so the shear number of non-stop flights from Baltimore is the envy of other airports

I flew Virgin Atlantic a ton, never had anything but the best experience.

I have deposits in on Virgin Voyages and hoping for the best on that front ... we shall see.

I just the cruise we want to book out of Southampton was on sale. At the moment when you try and book it is the rack rate with no discount applied. Eye wateringly expensive.

i have never seen a cruise at full price before.  I will just wait as not surprisingly none of the suites are selling at the moment.

You're totally right.  It's really about marketing, especially to new cruisers.

....

Think the bigger thing is everyone is looking for a sale of some type. Just look at a place like Kohl's or JC Penney.

I personally don't think anything at those places isn't sold with some type of discount. In fact when JC Penney stopped the sales gimmik and marked everyhing down to what was the typical sale price. Their revenue took a nose dive as people stopped shopping there due to the thought of pay regular price.

On this same thought, Royal has dug the hole deep for them now. If the stopped the never ending sale game and marked everything to the sale price without claiming a sale, I'm sure you would see their bookings slump.

Heck it is all a mental game of what seems to be the better price.

Problem is we have a big family in total 9 of us .

I got a price for 2 rooms for 8 people which I was really happy with but to try an add my other boy was going to cost a extra £2500 just for 1 bec we then would have to have 3 rooms .

I'm thinking is there a way I could put my son down as in another room but he would never actually stay with them if that makes sense

It might be worth it to search for a Family Junior Suite that can fit up to 5

Sorry response took a week!  Just got back from Allure yesterday!!  What a great ship, staff and food!!!

We are very proud of him, from now until this time next year he will be very busy with college stuff.  We may have to postpone Alaska next year because his first choice is the Air Force Academy.  Freshman have to start end of May.
