Very first cruise. What to expect ?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, looking for some help, hubby, 9 year old son and I are doing our first cruise on Anthem in May from Cape Liberty, super excited but dont know anything about cruising so any advise or tips would be a great help!

i.e whats the best way to get to Cape Liberty from Times square?

What time can we board?

Will our little boy have loads of entertainment as he is very shy so doesnt usually go to kids club while on holiday?

Xbox room?

My time dining ect

Thanks in advance ;)

Welcome to the boards!  I haven't been on Anthem but some general RC ideas:

We normally get to the ship around 10 or 10:30.  We like to be there early to explore the ship.

There is a lot of entertainment...pools, family trivia, arcade, family movies, Ripcord, bumper cars  and the AO does put on a few family activities. That being said I suggest you try the AO (kids club). My kids are extremely shy and have loved it.  In the evening, they have group games so everyone is on a team and playing together.  You don't have to worry about him being left out.  My kids aren't there all day but typically in the evening so we can go see a show, etc.

No xbox but there is an arcade (games cost $).

Make reservations in your cruise planner for my time dining. Do you have a question about it?

Feel free to ask for questions.  If you look on the blog, Matt has written some great articles for first time cruising, cruising with kids and more information on Anthem. Here's one to get you started:  https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/anthem-of-the-seas#.WpwF4ZPwbOQ

Thanks for the info!  It looks like a great area.  Note to self...do not book Anthem as my boys do enough of that at home!

Just be creative and "bend" the truth a bit...."oh, that area, sorry we can't use that area. It's for Diamond and above members on days that end in a y. We can only use it on days that don't" or "yeah, it would have been nice to know about this place before, booked it, signed the waivers and bought the ultimate dine and drink package". I'm sure your "boys" will fully understand.  Of course, there is another option you have, let them go to the Seaplex area all they want and YOU have free reign on board the ship. Think about the spa, salons, bars, casino, etc. :27_sunglasses:

I'm also sailing Anthem this Friday and probably live blogging it so if there's anything you want me to find out for you while I'm on the ship, just following along and ask away ?

Yes and no. I am most excited to not have to worry about what to cook for dinner every night.

No because I feel some apprehension about Anthem because it's not Oasis class. More about that in the live blog to come ?

Not much longer for you @rjac! I'm jealous of your B2B!
