Dan G
Hello Everyone, I had the opportunity to get a Royal Suite (RS) on an upcoming Liberty of the Seas sailing out of Galveston. Let's just say, its normally 11K for 2 ppl (give or take a grand) and I got it for the same price as myJS in Alaska! (4700). I have already sent some of my questions to Matt, but in this case, he hasn't been in a RS. (Although the Loft Suite on Harmony looked awesome) I digress. I have the following questions & I am hoping some of you have personally had experiences with this type of stateroom on any ship: Will I be offered a tour of the bridge? Will the concierge walk me onto the ship first? How will it work once the frictionless embarkation is set in place? I know there is a piano in the room, but on the Liberty, has anyone used it? Is it in tune ? (one of our friends is a pianist). Also, does the auto player allow guests to add new modern music piano data? This one Matt might know. I want to throw a little cocktail hour in the suite and wasn't sure what to plan for price-wise. How does RCCL charge for that? That's all for now. I'm sure I have more questions, but knowing any of this would be both fun and good to know beforehand. -Dan G RestingBird
Matt
These are great questions, but I'm afraid I don't know the answers to them. I suspect nearly all of these questions will be answered primarily from the Concierge onboard. He/she can coordinate things like a bridge tour or cocktail party. I strongly suspect the options available, costs, and other details may even vary from ship to ship. Dan G
Lovetocruise2002
Hi @Dan G and welcome to the boards! I came across a similar thread a few weeks ago and although I have never stayed in one, I followed it with interest. I have always wondered about the benefits of staying in a suite on a non-Oasis/Quantum class ship and if it was worth it. You got a steal of a deal! Anyway, before I pass along the thread, let me just first put out there that this board is the best, super knowledgeable, welcoming, and friendly. So don't go reading this and wander over to the dark side ? This question was put out for Radiance of the Seas but I suspect it might be similar on Liberty since they are both ships without the Royal Suite Class program. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2551635&highlight=radiance+of+the+seas Dan G
WAAAYTOOO
Well done, Dan. That is a GREAT price for the RS. I have never stayed in a RS so I can only give general information on other suites I have stayed in. ..and as Matt said, each ship has its own rules and its own prices so YMMV. 1. As a suites guest I can almost guarantee that you will be offered a bridge tour...as well as a galley tour and probably an entertainment tour as well. This is a pretty standard suite perk. 2. I have heard that guests in the Royal Suites have been given personal boarding and I have also heard that they do not on some ships. I think it is entirely dependent upon the ship. As Matt suggests, this is a question for your Concierge once you have established direct communication with him/her. My guess ? You will. 3. I've seen pictures of the piano but never actually heard one being played. Flip a coin. No idea. 4. Parties in the suite. I have had parties in my suite 3 times but those have always been in Star Class on an O class ship and there was never any charge however I did ask about having a party once when I was not in Star Class (I believe I was on Allure though). The information I was given was that we would have to purchase the entire bottle of whatever liquor(s)/wines we wanted to serve. There was no charge for having plates, glasses, napkins, etc. delivered to the suite but if we wanted a server, there would be a cost. I do recall that I thought the charge for the server was very reasonable. Honesty, I cannot recall what the deal was with finger food being delivered. I can't remember if they brought that free of charge or not. Old brain. In the end, we ended up NOT doing the party so I cannot confirm how this would have ended. Having said all of that, I spoke with another guest on a different cruise about this subject and that person was told that he would be charged a per-person rate and that there was no requirement to purchase entire bottles of liquor or wine. Those are 2 very different pricing scenarios to basically the same situation so I don't know which might apply to you - or maybe something else entirely ! Again, this is something the Concierge can answer for you. Enjoy the Royal Suite. It is on my bucket list. One day.... Dan G
Dan G
It sounds like the concierge will be my new best friend aboard. Thank you all for the replies so far. If anyone else has additional information...feel free to chime in. For your amussment...here is a VERY poorly photoshopped picture of my friends & I when we get inside the cabin. F1guynz
When we were on Explorer recently the Royal Suite guests were escorted on board by the concierge so I think you should expect that. Dan G
Dan G
perhaps a little off-topic, but sort of on-topic. Has anyone listened to the most recent podcast? I just listened and heard @Matt talk about the hot tub on the balcony. I had tingles going down my arms thinking of how how excited & fortunate I am to get that experience. Although gambling down in the casino seemed to help discount this cruise by an extra 40% regular rates. Ironic the casino gods are here for the ticket discount but gone when I'm on the ship gambling lol!

Considering you can't normally bring/buy liquor for consumption on board, it seems like throwing a "party" for a few "friends" would be an interesting way around the rules. Of course, the bottle price is probably insane!

Dan G
I imagine I would give the remaining alcohol to my stateroom attendant, I've had some be extra cool and deserve a surprise boose present. All I know is I can't wait for sail away. Ill have the tub heating up for Muster Drill. Then BAM! Back to the suite for constant use of it's separate bedroom with the king-size bed and private bathroom with ANOTHER TUB! Matt was totally spot on. I played a 60 second clip of the Podcast to my wife. She now understand why I have refused to get off the ship. Fortunately, it's a family group cruise, so she will join the group & get off the ship. The only time I plan to leave the room is to allow room cleaning and turndown service. Or I could just stay out on the private balcony. At 257 square ft., its like it's own stateroom, on the BUMP of the ship, noless. I'm sure it takes an hour to clean the 1633 square ft. Bedroom, living room, bar, & Full guest bath. I wonder if I should request the Baby Grand Piano be polished to my liking. Pardon the last few sentences. I had my pinkie up in the air and was talking with a british accent. (It didn't sound as hilarious when I read it back out loud haha), I will definitely be giving a full report to Matt once its done. Pictures/Videos will be had & experiences remembered forever.
