I have a very important question for you all though - I keep debating...

What should my first drink on board be?!?!?!

I'm boarding Harmony of Saturday and I'm having this same debate in my head....and out loud....I think my husband is about tired of me asking him what my first drink should be. These are important decisions!!

Checking in from San Juan!!! Currently sitting in Vaca Brava sipping a mojito. Initial thoughts:

Old San Juan is beautiful and walkable

the air BnB we picked is worth every penny. If you are spending at least two nights in San Juan pre cruise, I would gladly recommend it. Shoot me a message.

Am happy.

Magna and Mofongo! Cheers!!!

Ok, it’s obvious which is which, but what exactly is mofongo? I recognize the plantain in that picture, and the yellowish stuff at the front looks like chopped and maybe fried plantains? But what’s that in the middle of it with what looks like pickle slices and celery on top?

Garnished with a fried plantain, and the shrimp in the center of the mashed plantain was sautéed with cabbage

Never stayed at an air BnB.  More information about the residence and possibly some pictures, please.

I will get some pictures tomorrow and share out a link most likely when I get back. Right now we are back at the villa relaxing after a long day of travel.

Other stray thoughts -

getting a taxi from SJU to Old San Juan was a painless process. Once you are here, it really does feel like you can walk anywhere and everything is well lit.

Most leftover hurricane damage I’ve seen was outside of Old San Juan.. everything in this area seems to be up and running  and people are very nice

And now I’m playing a drinking game and I lost because I was writing this so for my own sake I’ll follow up in the morning

As discussed, here’s a few villa pictures!

3 bedroom (1 queen, 2 double), 2.5 bath Villa located in Old San Juan. AirBnB host has been great, and the property and location are incredible.

Gorgeous property! You and hubby planning on doing some sightseeing today? I've never been to San Juan, but am very excited to tour the city on my Adventure cruise this December :)

Wondering about sightseeing? I’m glad you asked! Today was a really, really fun day.

We kicked it off with a walk to a local coffee shop featuring locally roasted beans called Don Ruiz. I would recommend this to anyone for a delightful selection of pastries as well as a darn good iced coffee. After, we made breakfast in the villa with family and decided to head towards El Morro (pictures below) - absolutely worth the trip and made for a fantastic morning (and a workout!)

Following El Morro, we walked to Barrachina for lunch to try the original Pina Colada - and it was as good as you might think it would be. The food was great as well!!

We did a little shopping and relaxing after lunch and wound up at Greengos bar and restaurant for dinner, which was fantastic. They feature $5 margs and $2.50 corona for happy hour from 4-7 pm. Entirely worth it, and the food was great. Apps can easily be split for dinner.

Typing it out it doesn’t sound like we did much, but in a group of 12 it was a lot to coordinate and made for a fun day filled with good people.

Tomorrow we are headed to port around 11 am!!! Can’t wait to board!

Stray thoughts -

if you are traveling in a large group, ask to have the check split ahead of time. This caused some headaches for our group figuring out how much everyone owed.

For those with concerns regarding sailing from San Juan - I had a conversation with my sister in law where she shared her post hurricane concerns and wasn’t sure about sailing from here. After spending time in the city, she’s definitely glad to have come and has fallen in love with the city.

@Twangster....do tell, what does that mean? The 3.42 dl speed I understand, but this 03b????? Thanks!

Ping time.   O3b is 200-300ms.  Legacy satellite 600+ms.  The Harris CapRock is the other give away.   If it were O3b it typically says O3b Networks instead of Harris CapRock.    It's the latency or ping time that is the important differentiator.  That's what make everything work better.

Quick update - Mercedes has replaced Casey as Adventure Cruise Director

Word on CC is that he left RC today for Celebrity....

Great job Kayla, thanks. Nobody would blame you if you want to spend more time enjoying your cruise and less on the review :6_smile:  However, would you please try to find out how long Mercedes' contract is? We are sailing in May and just curious who we may have. Frankly, we are kind of happy it won't be Casey.  We had him on Adventure last year and we are not fans. Other than emceeing some shows, we did not see him at all the entire week. His morning show was bland and boring. Wish him, his wife and new baby the best, but glad we will not have him as CD again. Now, if we could only get Abe Hughes again....love that guy!

No matter what, I am sure we will love the cruise just like we always do. Oh, and thanks for the update Sabrina.

Hello from the Adventure of the Seas! We are currently docked in St. Maarten, but checking in for a review on our day yesterday.

We took a quick taxi from Old San Juan to Pan American Pier around 10:45. When we arrived at the port, we were able to go through a quick security check and board immediately after. One of the fastest I’ve experienced. The 12:30 pm check in time stated by RCCL doesn’t appear to be enforced. I did also notice that Platinum C&A and up were being allowed through the Suite/Pinnacle line.

Upon embarkation, we made our way to the Schooner for a drink and to relax. Looking around the Promenade, the effect of the refurb was obvious. All of the furnishings and carpet looks brand new - the ship is very clean. We made our way to the Windjammer for lunch, and as expected the food was great. We noticed that on entry to the Windjammer there was a set of hand wash and dry stations placed outside, and thankfully they were being utilized! Nice touch!! The dryer appeared to come out the side of the faucet, which helps keep things compact and moving.

After lunch, we hung around the ship until staterooms were ready right around 1:30 pm. We love our Promenade Interior room! As with the rest of the ship, everything in the rooms looks quite new. So far, I’m very impressed.

This cruise we plan to eat in the main dining room each evening. We’ve had a hiccup getting a pair in our group seated with us, but hoping to finally get that resolved today. Dinner was great - others in my group raves about the prime rib and I really enjoyed a vegetable and polenta dish.

After dinner we made our way to the casino, where I am happy to share I had some great luck on roulette!

Thats all for now - about time to head in to st maarten for our tour!

Have a great time! I really enjoyed that route last year.  I'm going again in a few weeks.  I'm curious about the VOOM on your trip, i'm hoping it has improved since the last dry dock.  Last year it was not worth the money we spent, but I'd love to purchase it this year if its improved.  Please let us know what you think. I hope it gives you the capability to scope and post pics! Enjoy!

I bought a 2 device package as I have to college aged boys with me and they need to be connected to the girlfriends back on dry land.  Hope it is worth the money!
