How do the points on a Royal Caribbean card work?  Does your points/$$$$ automatically show up somewhere on your Royal Caribbean account on the RC website?  Can the points/$$$$ be used for booking or is it onboard credit only?  If it is onboard credit, will it show up when you book a cruise like onboard credits?  For instance, I have a Southwest Airlines credit card.  When I earn points, it shows up on my Southwest account on the Southwest website.  Will this be similar?

You earn points when using your Royal Caribbean Visa.  Your points balance will be listed on your monthly credit card statement and it will also be posted on line when you log in to your credit card account.  When you log in to your on line credit card account, it will show you your points balance and it will have a button you can click to redeem your points. You can redeem your points for stateroom upgrades, cruise discounts, onboard credits and amenities, towards the cruise fare, as on board credit for an upcoming cruise, for a free cruise (if you have A LOT of points) for Royal Caribbean merchandise or as donations.

* On board credit is REFUNDABLE, so if you don't spend it all on the cruise, you can get the remaining amount back as cash from Guest Services on the last day of the cruise.

 5000 points = $50 on board credit

10,000 points = $100 onboard credit

* If you redeem points for a "free cruise" be aware that that this does not include the deposit.  You still have to pay that yourself before redeeming points. Terms and conditions also apply.

50,000 points =  3 or 4 night Royal Caribbean cruise, (minimum available oceanview stateroom); value of cruise vacation fare may not exceed one thousand dollars ($1,000 USD value)

125,000 points = 5 to 7 night Royal Caribbean Caribbean cruise, (minimum available oceanview stateroom); value of cruise vacation fare may not exceed two thousand five hundred dollars ($2,500 USD value)

250,000 points = 9 to 12 night Royal Caribbean Caribbean cruise, (minimum available oceanview stateroom); value of cruise vacation fare may not exceed three thousand six hundred dollars ($3,600 USD value)

350,000 points = 7-night Royal Caribbean Caribbean cruise, (minimum available balcony stateroom); value of cruise vacation fare may not exceed seven thousand dollars ($7,000 USD value)

Though, I'm not a big fan of credit card holders clogging up the suite lines though.

Yes and it waters down my Pinnacle/Zeneth boarding benifit immensely

With plus card

I haven't done the calculations on all usage as using for cruise purchase just 7 day, it could return 1.15 cents per dollar spent if you can squeak out the $3600 value

On OBC it's at .04 cents per dollar spend

Maybe people just won't notice that perk.

People will notice that perk.  For a $99 annual fee you will get early boarding with Suite/Pinnacle guests without paying for a suite on ALL of your sailings. If you cruise more than a couple of times per year that is a bargain!  You are right, though, it will clog up the Suite/Pinnacle boarding line and it will dilute the Suite/Pinnacle benefit.  I suspect it will take no more than 4 minutes before Royal Caribbean realizes what a mistake this is.

I was considering signing up for the current card to get the $300 onboard credit.  Should I do that while that card is still available or will the new card (either one of them) also have that sign-up bonus perk?

So disappointing. I was hoping they would come up with something to actually replace the old Sapphire Reserve for cruise spend. I guess I'll keep using the Altitude Connect for 4% back.

$99 a year for essentially just the "suite entrance" and priority luggage, which is pretty vaguely worded. Even if you go right after suites + the Key, you'd have to board a lot of cruises a year for that to be worth it.

not gonna lie, i’d be thrilled with the priority boarding and luggage handling at $99 a year. that’s cheaper than the key or celebrity’s premium access per trip!!!

 Ditto! Not to mention

  • 4X points on purchases with Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, and Silversea
  • 2X points on groceries, gas, EV charging, plus air, hotel, and dining
  • 1X point on all other purchases                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Sign me up!

Don't you guys read Matt's articles?

"Royal Caribbean Group says current cardholders will be automatically converted to the new Royal ONE card. From there, they’ll have the option to upgrade to the Royal ONE Plus version if they want the additional perks."

The new Royal One Plus card offers up to $120 reimbursment if you purchase your TSA precheck or Global entry once every 4 years as well. You must pay with the New Royal One Plus Card.  From the letter I received it sounds like there will be an additional Priority line for Royal One and Royal One Plus Cardholders:

Their words:   "Priority boarding through the Royal One Rewards designated access line on boarding day."

This is the information from Royal One letter as I do not have any Royal One Plus info yet.

So… Will cruise statement purchases (eg room charges… Casino..) be included in the 3/4x points credit? Or will they exclude those out? We really miss the points from our Chase Reserve…

I certainly have no idea what the new card will do, but for the existing Royal Caribbean visa card, ANYTHING that is charged through Royal Caribbean garnered 2X points.  I sure hope that doesn't change with the new card.  4X on all RCI charges sounds awesome !

I am reading in the FAQ that the OBC cannot be used for taxes fees or gratuities. We use our OBC for the automatic gratuities all the time. That will be a negative. Will we need to pick what category we use it for ie wifi or specialty dining? I liked where we had no restrictions on what we could use the OBC on.

But it all depends on the redemption value of those points.

If the redemption value is only 1/2 what current card is it's still a wash

Currently the OBC from the card just gets applied as a credit against your onboard account. It doesn't matter what you charge to your account; the credit offsets the total. I'm not sure if that will change with the OBC from this card, but I believe the Terms & Conditions on the current card states the same.

Where do you see the part about gratuities? Taxes and fees, yes, but I can't find anything about gratuities.

I'm not sure how they could prevent you from paying your gratuities with the redemption OBC since it just goes into your account to be used on whatever you want it to be used for.  Obviously, if you prepay your gratuities, that's a different story, but if you pay your gratuities onboard, you will be able to use your redemption OBC for grats if you want.

Yep, if they did, the card would be useless to us !

Same here. If the redemption exchange stays the same, the 4X points would beat my 3% cash back travel card that I typically use for Royal. Then I'd actually dust off the card for more than the signup bonus.
