mac66 Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 Been awhile since we've done the eastern Caribbean. In looking at future cruises a bunch of them stop at Cabo Rojo. Anybody been there? What is there to do there? Quote
WAAAYTOOO Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 Cabo Rojo is a new cruise port and it's still under development but I think it's a cute little port. Ogilthorpe 1 Quote
billdauterive Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 I was there a few months ago and honestly it's now my least favorite port (by far). The port area isn't really large enough for an Oasis class ship. I was on a Radiance class and it felt very crowded so I can't image how it is with almost triple the amount of people. If you're bringing children it's probably ok as they have a little "carnival" area with free games and a few free rides like the a ferris wheel. There is also a cool little side street that makes you feel like your on a hill but water is running uphill when the street is actually flat. There is a lazy river and a "pool", but the pool is mostly just deep enough to soak your feet with a very small area that is actually deep enough to kind of submerge your body. There is little to no shade anywhere. I think in several years it might be better when some of the palms get taller but it's brutal right now. The food and drink are expensive. One local beer was $8 and simple things like chicken tenders were well over $20. Cocktails were just as or more expensive than on the ship. Souvenirs were more expensive than most other ports (think like $20+ for the typical cheap port T-shirt) The beach area was pretty expensive to enter and didn't include anything other than chairs I think. The beach did not look very inviting or a place I would want to spend time for free, much less for a fee. There's very few excursions offered if you want to explore beyond the port. There is a town that's about 30 mins away you could take a taxi to, but I don't know what there is to do there. It reminds me of what Costa Maya was probably like 20 years ago from what people have told me that experienced it. I do think it has potential to turn into a decent port over the next few years with some more investments (I like the current Costa Maya unlike a lot of other people). But as-is, I personally will be staying on the ship in the future when we dock there. Ogilthorpe 1 Quote
