I've found hotels with a shuttle from the airport.

I know there are a few hotels near the port that have a shuttle (usually a fee) to the port.

But do any have both?      We are flying into LAX the day before this summer.

ok. Thanks

I was thinking it would be a choice I'd have to make- based on what was more important.

Some of the reviews I've read about a hotel shuttle to the port have stated that they had to wait at the hotel for space on the shuttles as a lot of folks at the hotel are headed to the port- and that it might make more sense to grab a rideshare

Any suggestions from posters here?

I have never heard about one but I just checked and a Uber from a hotel near the airport is $40 to $75 depending on the size.  The hotels are much cheaper near LAX.   If you want near the cruise port I stay at  DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel San Pedro - Port of Los Angeles.  The price is $141 to $343 depending on the night.  They jump the price way up for busy nights.  The hotel is nice because they have a free shuttle to the port and it is in the bay where small boats are kept and is a nice place to walk at night.

If you are staying in the LAX area the LA metro isn’t all that bad of an idea (it ain’t Japan) but it gets the job done. It will just be a 4-6 minute walk from the major airport hotels to LAX/ Metro Transit Center or Aviation / Century station. Board the C Line in the direction of Norwalk or Willowbrook (runs every 10 minutes), get off at Harbor Fwy station. Transfer to the J line 950 San Pedro Fwy Express bus. (Runs every 15-20min). Get off at Beacon/1st (right outside the cruise terminal.) Considering you use your Apple Wallet/Google Wallet to pay, it would only come out to $1.75pp each way. (Free 2hrs transfers)

What about something like the Homewood Suites Redondo Beach?  Hotel seems ok.    I need a hotel that will allow 5 guests in a room.

Looks like I'd need to take an Uber to the hotel- and then grab one to the port the next morning.

We cruise from LA often.

Being a West Coaster, we fly in on the morning of our cruise, so a motel is never in our scheme.

But transportation issues and options apply regardless of LAX to the cruise terminal and/or from LAX to the motel, and ultimately to the cruise port.

We always use

and they are terrific.  From LAX to the cruise port is $133 for two of us including a pre-paid tip.  That's in a huge Cadillac SUV and handles any and all luggage very well.  They have other and cheaper options. They wait for us directly outside baggage claim, are always aware of our flight schedule including changes or late arrivals, and it has always worked terrifically.

And at the end of the cruise, we always book a shuttle to LAX from Royal.  It can be done at Guest Services  or from the cruise planner.  I think it's 30-bucks each.  It also works very well for us.

Yes, yes, yes, I know other folks do it differently and uber seems to be also popular.  I also know on one cruise, uber was completely unavailable and folks missed their early flights.  We do what always works.

I have only ever flown out Long Beach after an LA cruise, but thanks to how Southwest has changed things, we're flying out of LAX in July on a Friday. What time do you normally get to the airport when using the RC shuttle?

Actually, Royal has different times depending on when your flight is.  We always book a post-noon flight so Royal puts us on the last shuttle.  We get dropped at the airline terminal roughly 10-10:30.

But beware... we booked the shuttle one time and seems Royal overbooked the shuttles. They had to find other buses and ultimately we didn't hit the airport til noon.  All the more reason we book our flights after noon.  That was also the time there were no ubers available, and the folks with early flights missed their flights.

That would work. We have a 12:45 flight. I assume that'd be the 9am shuttle since there's either that or 8:15.

You're an experienced cruiser, so you know how to make things work.  For me, I would still insist on the earliest shuttle.

I don't have enough room left for more worry lines. 😊

Well now you have me questioning the times. Is that 8:15/9am the "leave the ship and start boarding the bus" time or the "you better be on the bus because we're leaving now" time?

Absolutely recommend this!!! It was amazing.  My only problem was getting an uber to Royal in our departure morning.  I think we waited till after a leisurely breakfast and the uber just kept cancelling (after it said 10 minutes away and it became 20!) we finally paid for the most expensive pick up and the guy was there in 5 minutes. Funny how that worked!

Used Royal shuttle off of Icon. The tickets had the meeting time which was the time we booked the shuttle for only there was zero clarity as to where to meet-I received different answers from guest services. Tickets said street-guest service said theater…, another agent said the promenade…. we went to the street and buses were already loaded…it was load and go. I don’t think they cared what your tickets said.  The driver had to load his own bus-no assistant-at least mine didn’t-what a shit show, and yes I have them booked again.   Better to book early than to risk getting caught up in the BS…. So “earlier flight” out info will be necessary😜. I always call air 2 sea and ask for what the earliest flight they show for me to be able to book, then I have the idea of the info.

Chiming in about the time with the shuttle - the shuttle time says 8am. I think the last cruise I did, I showed up at 8am and it left at 8:15am. The other time I did it, I showed up at 8am and then shuttle left at 8:20am. Both times, we were at LAX by 9:15am.

Hope this helps!

Your best bet is a quick walk to the Uber line.  Super easy.  The I recommend Crowne Plaza Los Angeles Harbor and they have a super easy shuttle to port

Thanks. I think we might do the shuttle and stay in a hotel near the port.  There will be 5 of us in my family along with 4 more in another family and I see this shuttle service you mentioned has vans that transport 9 people with luggage.

I do like the idea of staying near the port so that it's easier to get to the ship in the morning.

That was our experience off Icon last September doing a shuttle to FLL.

Depending on the size of your group, rideshare is always an easy option. We had six of us with big suitcases for our cruise in December, so we used Tri Shuttle and had excellent service.

We did this as well on our one and only cruise out of LA.  The Carnival Terminal is adjacent but the RC terminal is a short distance away.  We had our own vehicle so transportation was not an issue.  If you do the Queen Mary make sure you arrive early enough to do some of the tours.  We arrived too late for that but you can still tour the ship on your own.  The onboard restaurant was decent enough.

From where to where?

LAX to the port?

I did book a hotel right next to the airport for arrival in LA.   Thought about just doing rideshare from there down to the port for the cruise.  Going with another family so there will be 9 of us.  Other family is glad to share the cost of a ride down.

In our case, we had gone in a couple of days early to visit Disneyland. So our ride was from our hotel in Anaheim to the port. But they can pick you up pretty much anywhere.

Thanks.  We are going to do Disneyland the day after our cruise ends.     I will consider booking with Tri-shuttle.
