There are some missing pieces of info that would be helpful for someone to know in order to give you an answer here:

What would be the cost to directly upgrade to a JS?

What is the RoyalUp bid starting at?

Would you be comfortable with any of the possible JS that exist on Odyssey of the Seas? Keep in mind there are different JS layouts on Odyssey and some will only have a bathtub which can pose a problem for those with mobility issues.

Not to mention the program can swap you from a standard cabin to an accessible cabin. This happened to me prior to my last sailing on Wonder. I won a bid from a standard non accessible OV Balcony to an accessible JS and I am NOT ok with that. My family and I are able body and do not require anything accessible. I cannot believe the RU program can get away with that. It took an extensive amount of effort across all fronts (social media, email contacts, travel agent exc) to finally get refunded and back into a “similar” OV Balcony. I have cancelled all of my RU bids for upcoming cruises and I no longer trust the program. Just a word of caution for you.

If the accessible cabin was never booked by a party that needed its features, what's the problem with Royal Up filling it?  I can understand not wanting to take an accessible cabin away from someone that needs it, but near the sailing date, I would say any accessible cabins still in inventory are fair game for anyone to book (Royal Up or not).  Some accessible cabins are also slightly larger than normal for their category so that's like a free hidden bonus.

Yes, I understand that. I don’t feel comfortable taking an accessible cabin and as far as I can tell that option was never disclosed to me. I have been bidding RU since it started and have won many suite upgrades but never from a standard cabin to accessible. What options would someone have if they started out in an accessible room because they needed it and RU placed them indiscriminately into a standard cabin? I can tell you exactly what happens, they are screwed. Most of the sailing are booked solid and when you win a RU bid, your old cabin is already taken and there are no other openings.

If someone already had and needed an accessible cabin, and they chose to use RU, that would seem to be a potentially big mistake on their part.  I suppose it is possible that RU could recognize this and only upgrade accessible to accessible.  I think it's far more likely that anyone needing an accessible cabin is just not going to use RU.  But again, most RU assignments are ~1 week before the cruise.  At that point, anyone needing an accessible cabin should already have one and any remaining accessible cabins will have been returned to inventory for anyone to book at the last minute.  As far as I'm aware, the entire hospitality industry works this way, not just Royal.

Personally, at any expense, I absolutely prefer a Junior Suite to any lesser cabin.  Preferably booked at the outset, or thru a Royal Up.

But if a Royal Up gives you an accessible cabin, and that's distasteful, then don't do it.   Personally, it's a non-issue.  They assigned me an otherwise unused accessible Junior Suite one time, and it was great!

That’s exactly why I didn’t do it. I bid on a JS and I got an accessible JS. I don’t want an accessible cabin so I stopped using Royal up. Problem solved.

Just wondering if royal up to Jr suite from  suite with large balcony is worth it on Odyssey of the Seas transatlantic cruise

i just called an upgraded from balcony to GTY Suite which will likely be Jr Suite for $700. The poor bid for a royal up Jr Suite was $700pp. I'd call first and ask what the cost is to upgrade.

In my opinion, people who need these types of options should not use RoyalUp, for the exact reason you stated.  The same goes for people who have multiple rooms and need to keep them close together, like we do with older family members.  Because RoyalUp is basically a GTY cabin, you would not want to take the risk, if you have specific requirements.

good luck!
