I loved my experience. lisbon I would do your own thing. It is an amazing city and it is easy to do on your own. I have travelled there and loved it! Generalchadwick 1 Quote
FOB Posted January 10 Report Posted January 10 We booked a hike through the ship for our Azores stop for our TA (to the US) in October. That meant that when we had to divert due to a storm it was nice and simple and we got a straight refund with no hassle. We had done the TA to Europe in April last year and managed the Azores stop but from what I have heard we were VERY lucky so if you do want something in the Azores and you dont want the hassle of trying too cancel from the mid Atlantic if the stop gets missed I would suggest booking through the ship. Lisbon, Cartagena, Malaga and Palma are all very much a get off an wander as they are historic but the sights are close to the port - or definitely walkable as I am assuming you have no mobility issues if you are planning on cycling. If you do Cartagena on your own then the museum has the Roman Amphitheatre attached. If you (or anyone in your party) doesnt like heights be aware that a) the walkway from the museum to the amphitheatre comes in half way up the semicircle. b) the exit is at the bottom of the semi circle and there are no handrails for the stairs down. We have some (awful) pictures of me going up stairs on all fours as I thought the exit was at the top and then coming down stairs on my bottom. I had already gone down to the stage level with a hand on my husbands shoulder and the other hand being held by a random stranger as I had a panic attack! Quote
Riley Posted January 10 Report Posted January 10 Palma the Hop On Hop Off bus has a stop right as you exit the cruise terminal (which, depending on your berth that day, is a very long walk to get through) look for the red kiosk across the street. It's a nice tour by itself and the town is an easy walk about. Cartegena is also an easy DIY if you want. The Roman Amphitheatre is worth the visit and you can do it by yourself. The town square and area is fun to walk around. Enjoy! Quote
KWong Posted January 12 Report Posted January 12 Check GetYourGuide and Klook. I find that they offer things at less of a markup than Viator and, of course, the cruise line. I see that you get into Lisbon rather late. That kind of sucks. The good news is that the cruise port is right by Praca do Comercio, so you'll be close to a major tourist stop. Castelo de Sao Jorge will be right above you, and I do mean above. Bit of a hike up there. You could also head over to Mosteiro dos Jerónimos (might need to buy your tickets in advance). You can take a tram over but it will be packed and it takes forever. You're better off taking a train from Cais de Sodre to Belem (2 stops). There's a Time Out market across the street from Cais de Sodre which is a little touristy but still has a lot of local bites. Behind Time Out there's a funicular (but not THAT Lisbon funicular). At the top, you can head east and reach the top of the Elevador de Santa Justa, which is cool to see, but I don't think it's worth the time or cost to ride it. In Palma, the Hop On Hop Off is probably your best bet if you're looking to go to Castillo de Bellver. But if you port in the far terminal, it's a bit of a walk to the nearest HOHO stop (Porto Pi Centre Comercial I believe). Haven't been to the other places so I can't comment there. PhillyLady 1 Quote
