cruisinstyle
As the title says, we will be on the ship for the super bowl... Does anyone know if they do any sort of watch party? I assume at a minimum we would get it as standard cable in the rooms? I know the NFL is very particular about broadcasting the super bowl to large groups without paying so I wasn't sure if RCL would do it or not. Anyone been on a ship during the super bowl before? Cheers
RRoberts
Was on Freedom in 2014 for the Big Game as it is referred to, since the can't say Super Bowl. The had a big party on the pool deck showing the game on the big screen. Also was able to watch in your cabin as well.
NS8VN
There are benefits to being in international waters While true that is meant as a joke, I'm sure the lines probably acquire the legal rights to show the games. They know that American visitors want to watch it so they get a nice big party going on that is well attended with people who might be very interested in buying drinks. I haven't been on a ship during one, but I have looked at old DCL Navigators in preparation for our upcoming cruise and last year they showed it in one of the pubs as well as on the Funnelvision. They even were advertising it with the full name and logo. I'm sure this weekend I could even watch the Pro Bowl. I don't really intend to, but I'm sure it will be on. Enjoy your cruise! Matt
Yes, there will be plenty of spots onboard to watch the game. Usually the game is shown in a theater or large venue. Wilson
bobroo
Yes, the Super Bowl is shown in the big theater and Royal does a great job catering the event--and likely the only time they allow food there. The times I've been onboard it seems the crowd was 50/50 for each team which adds to the fun even if you don't care for football. It will be the US broadcast. On the other hand, the commercials are not shown; all you see is a blank screen during the intervals. It is unknown why Royal purposefully does this. Likewise, the Academy Awards are made available. I've never seen them shown in the theater but they are shown in the sports bar and in the pub. Many, many people will be there watching and wishing the did not have dinner reservations. L454S
Will be on the Empress in a couple weeks for the game. Looking forward to seeing how RCI compares to Princess for the game. Saw the 2013 game on the Golden Princess, it was jammed full on the pool deck for the big screen.
wsyrob
We were on Oasis last year for the Super Bowl. They had it in the Opal theater and had a bar setup and nacho type food. It was fun until the bartender mixed up my seapass card with another cruisers and gave me the wrong card back. Didn't notice it until I went to get another beer. Wound up spending half the game in a guest services line getting that fixed.
Michael Vitale
I was onboard for a SB. It was on at the pool as well as everywhere else. You won’t miss it.

It's likely that since they are broadcasting to a large audience the commercials can be seen as being endorsed by Royal Caribbean. Another - how they get the actual feed, the feed they get may just be the live broadcast without the commercials.

Osu_buckeye
The feed is ESPN Caribbean, which is why no commercials. Was on Oasis last year during game. Announcers were not the same as whichever US network had the game. We watched most of game in Studio B (ice theater), then went to casino when Atlanta had the game in hand - oops! Had to rush back to watch end of 4th and OT. RCI puts out tailgate food - nachos and dogs.
constable145
The feed is the NFL international feed. Same video( unless they cut away to show on air talent) for the most part. While the international feed does have a few of their own cameras they let the main network do the heavy lifting. Same wild sound for ambient sounds... they get a feed from NBC... Different announcers . No Al,Cris and Michele... and since the advertisers pay NBC for the commercial real estate, no American commercials. The world feed is sold to broadcasters all over the world who then sell their own ads.

Seafarer
On our Thanksgiving B2B on the Indy, they had NFL games on the poolside big screen, English Pub and Playmakers (naturally). Ms Seafarer and I can't recall if they had commercials or not. Last year, we went to Key West and watched the game harborside at Dante's, since we couldn't get on a ship. Next month, we'll be hanging out at Playmakers on the Odyssey. Hoping to see your Packers in the SB. I'm sure the Buc and Cowboy fans will disagree. BTW--great re-use of resources, as this post hasn't been updated in nearly 4 years!!! Wilson and WAAAYTOOO 1
teddy
We watched it from the pool deck in Mariner in 2019. As mentioned back a few posts, they refer to it as “The Big Game”. Wilson
