Scarlet15 Posted November 3 Report Posted November 3 We are going on Indy and curious on what types of channels you get on the TV in your room. Can you stream Netflix or any other streams? Quote

Can you stream Netflix or any other streams? Yeah the TV channels aren't great to be honest. There are a bunch dedicated to Royal Caribbean info channels. There are kids channels, from little ones to teens. There are the regular news channels which I wish they would drop all of them personally. I think ESPN and some crappy music channels that honestly are a tad embarrassing. I bring my laptop and I can watch Netflix, Disney Plus a life saver for travelling with kids, and Hulu Live TV. I can watch Mets games, local NFL. Voom EXPENSIVE but thank goodness for the technology today. Its really wonderful. I mean anything you subscribe to you can watch, we have Paramount plus, Peacock, Apple TV+. Yes too many but oh well. You can watch anything you sub too with a laptop. Scarlet15 1 Quote
Matt Posted November 3 Report Posted November 3 Most TVs dont have a means of streaming directly to them, so I'd be prepared to watch on your own device. PhillyLady, Rory86, RCIfan1912 and 2 others 5 Quote

For all the amazing technological features on the fleet this does not carry over to staterooms TVs. Old screens, no way to cast or even a HDMI port, terrible TV channel selection, terrible on demand movie selection. I think the idea is that you would spend your time enjoying the entertainment and activities on board instead of watching TV. Dan05, Scarlet15, WAYNO and 2 others 5 Quote

smokeybandit Posted November 3 Report Posted November 3 Unless you're into sports, your stock portfolio or politics, the TV channels are really meant for background noise only Scarlet15 and WAAAYTOOO 2 Quote
amanalo217 Posted November 3 Report Posted November 3 I was able to cast from my phone to the tv on Odyssey. Scarlet15 1 Quote

I think the idea is you can't spend money if your are in your room watching TV. We were on a different cruise line in Europe and had a very nice suite with TONS of new movies and great TV channels on a really big TV. Our Butler brought us food from any venue. We had 3 sea days and barely left the room. WAAAYTOOO and Scarlet15 1 1 Quote
WAYNO Posted November 3 Report Posted November 3 I get that TV should be quite secondary on a cruise. But late at night, when actually getting ready for bed, we like to turn on the TV. I've found there is close to nothing worth watching. And I also understand, if I was 25, this television service might be considered wonderful. We are not the target for their TV offerings. Traveling Mike Posted November 3 Report Posted November 3 I just spent 13 days on one of the older ships and did not have issues finding something on the TV for background noise or to go to sleep with. If you are looking for kids they have three different channels for three different age groups that have good shows. I played the teen one lots of the time. They also have three different news channels that hit any political space you lean toward. If I really wanted to watch a movie or show I would just bring out my laptop and stream something without any issue. I had no complaints... Ogilthorpe, PhillyLady, Dan05 and 1 other 4 Quote
RCIfan1912 Posted November 3 Report Posted November 3 Last October I watched the Mets in the playoffs and was texting my buddy from work with every play. It was really cool watching MLB playoff baseball in the Atlantic ocean going to Canada. It kinda worked out time wise with our early dinner of 5 o'clock. Absolutely no issues with internet speed or interruptions. Scarlet15 1 Quote
Eddie305 Posted November 4 Report Posted November 4 TV channels selection is very limited but movies at the pool screen and sport events at bars are usually much better, in my opinion. Scarlet15, RCIfan1912, WAYNO and 1 other 4 Quote
tjcruisers Posted November 4 Report Posted November 4 I remember on the newer ships you could stream from your device to the tv, but it was through the royal network and you had to get code to do it (for a cost). Was trying on the Wonder. Not sure if they up amplified ships with it Scarlet15 1 Quote

Ok boomer here... the only way I know how to cast is with fishing pole or a net. How and what are you casting with your phone? Vancity Cruiser, teddy and WAAAYTOOO 2 1 Quote

How and what are you casting with your phone? Casting here is projecting what someone watches on a phone/tablet/laptop to a different screen, typically a TV. So your phone/tablet/laptop is the rod, the TV is where your bobber lands, since that's where your eyes are waiting for a fish, and magic of radio waves is your fishing line RCIfan1912, Scarlet15, WAAAYTOOO and 1 other 3 1 Quote
Scarlet15 Posted November 5 Author Report Posted November 5 Thank you all. My mom will be doing dialysis in her room. So spending 4ish hours multi times during our cruise, she would like to watch some movies. My husband and I are not big party people. So at the end of the night, after dinner and shows, we may just want to relax in our room with a movie. Quote
