Smokey79 Posted October 18 Report Posted October 18 Finally got settled for the night so I have a chance to post this even though I wouldn’t have believed it if I didn’t experience it. While short lived thankfully, we did lose power last night across the entire ship (to the best of my knowledge). I did hear enough people complaining this morning to safely say the casino went dark. For me, Deck 18 just had the green emergency lights going on the floor and initially a few emergency lights but those went out after about a minute. We had a couple of lights in the suite that worked for about a minute then shut off as well. My guess is that they rebooted things. Total outage prob 2/3 min or so. Just long enough to think oh yay this better not be a poop cruise lol. Rumor is/was an incident on deck five but I’ve heard nothing either way. Interesting final night for sure. Eddie305 Posted October 18 Report Posted October 18 Interesting indeed and glad it was a short one. However, unacceptable the fact that no official announcement was provided explaining outage. WAYNO 1 Quote
twangster Posted October 18 Report Posted October 18 I've experienced a similar loss of power on other ships. They have redundant systems but when something occurs they must first confirm what occurred before engaging back up systems. This takes a few minutes and it is not fully automated or instant. It's far from a poop cruise scenario. When it last occured for me it was as we approached US waters when they have to switch fuel types. They are required to run a cleaner fuel closer to land. The change in fuel type can cause an engine to blip that causes the electrical system to go offline out of caution. It doesn't occur often but it can. smokeybandit Posted October 18 Report Posted October 18 On boarding day Sunday for Quantum, they did a power outage drill at about 11:30 am. Confused the heck out of passengers since the elevators were all dead. Quote

WAYNO Posted October 18 Report Posted October 18 Folks experience power losses far more than they even know. At the mall, at the hospital, in your city, and as we know, aboard a ship. The switchover to a replacement power supply, or different distribution is often automatic, and so quick you'd likely not know you've lost power. And sometimes it may take a little longer. Either way, I don't know that anyone owes anybody an explanation of what caused the temporary power loss. If the Skipper would announce on the loudspeaker the power loss was caused by a melted fusible link or blown capacitor on the power supply buss, would that change anything? Just be glad the power came back relatively quickly and there were professionals involved that made it happen. teddy 1 Quote

Dean G Posted October 20 Report Posted October 20 My wife and I were on board when the power outage occurred. We were never given any kind of explanation as to why the power outage occurred neither while we were on board nor since disembarking. Because of this I called Royal Caribbeans Customer complaint line to inquire about the power outage. The representative I spoke with said they have no record on the ship’s log of this ever occurring. This seems very disturbing to me, considering it did occur, and it was not reported nor documented by the ship’s crew apparently. When I asked if there would be any kind of follow up with my call, I was told that Royal Caribbean’s official social media team would investigate the occurrence. Basically telling me that it’s not official until somehow another the social media team has made it official with their investigation? This is aalso unsettling to me, considering how many people were affected by this power outage. Anyone else out there got any kind of explanation or idea as to how to do a follow up with this matter? I would love to hear it. Besides just one occurrence, we did have a great cruise, but now we hesitate to cruise again with royal Caribbean. Quote

Royal will not likely post or publish any details of the incident. Most companies don't. Dean G and Ogilthorpe 1 1 Quote

If the power goes out at your home for two minutes, do you get a detailed report from the power company? I'm guessing no. Why would Royal owe you any explanation? sleepy425 Posted October 21 Report Posted October 21 My last time in an inside cabin (2004), I was in the room reading and all the power went out. I made my way out of the room to thankfully find emergency lights in the hallway. Apparently it happened due to a small fire, and power was restored quickly. Between that experience and my increasing claustrophobia, I swore off inside cabins (for me. Now that I have kids they totally get put in inside cabins to save money). Quote
