Eastern Caribbean Cruise Excursions

Recommended Posts

I will be on the Allure in a few weeks on the Eastern Caribbean cruise. I will be visiting St. Maarten, Nassau, and St. Thomas. I have been researching excursions for the ports and just wondered if anyone who has been to these ports had any "can't miss" suggestions on things to do? I don't snorkel. I am thinking about Maho Beach in St. Maarten so that I can see the planes land but I don't know if I want that to be an all day excursion. I have also read on Trip Advisor and Cruise Critic that 'Bernard's Tours' in St. Maarten is pretty good. Has anyone used them?

Also, if anyone has any suggestions about Nassau (was thinking of the Paradise Island waterslide and lazy river package. Is it worth the money?) and also St. Thomas, I would appreciate any and all feedback.

Maho Beach is good for about an hour or so, unless you really want to see a few planes land.  Between planes landing it's mostly a bar scene, although there is a beach to swim at as well.  I can't see spending all day here unless you want to get your drink on and enjoy the planes coming and going.

I've visited a few spots in St Maarten such as...

Bikini Beach: http://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2013/10/08/excursion-focus-bikini-beach-st-martin

Le Galion Beach: http://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2013/03/07/excursion-focus-le-galion-beach

When I visit St. Maarten, I've always used the services of a local driver I met a few trips back, who takes me around to what we tell him we're interested in.  Usually his services for the day cost around $100 and that includes his van with A/C.  I prefer using him over a group tour because it's far more personalized and I like to travel at my own pace.  If you like, I can share his phone number with you.

In St. Thomas, there's no question you should be going to Magens Bay: http://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2013/06/25/excursion-focus-magens-bay

Saint John is a good option from St. Thomas as is snorkeling; it really depends what you're into in terms of activities. Magen's Bay is also very nice. I also agree with Matt regarding St. Maarten. Maho Beach is a tourist attraction. Worth doing, but I wouldn't want to sp end the day there as it's too crowded and the bar is too expensive. I also used the same driver as Matt, who I'd highly recommend as you'll have more flexibility over other options and likely save money. Also, it was a grat experience with him.

I would love to also get the contact information for the person you use in St. Maarten.
