I booked the train from Civitavecchia to Rome for Legend next year and I'm wondering where in Rome would we get off/on the train? I will likely book a tour through Viator in Rome and just trying to figure out where we'll be and timing it to get back at the appropriate time.

You may want to consider getting off at Roma San Pietro (St Peter) near the Vatican- you will have more time to explore- fewer stops and the walk to Trevi or the Pantheon is lovely.

I agree with Tess. If you are just using the train to get to Rome for the day (so you dont have luggage) then Roma San Pietro will allow you to get to the Vatican within 5 minutes of the station. Tickets are about ¢4 single at the moment but it is regional train so there are a few stops before you get to Rome. After you have done a tour of the Vatican Museums and/or St Peters Basilica its a simple walk to get down to Castel Sant'Angello, across the Tiber and then up through Piazza Navonna to the Trevi, Pantheon, Colosseum and  the forum, popping into various churches on the way to cool down.

Since we were last there they have started charging for access to the Pantheon (unless you get there just before mass) but St Peter's was still free

Just been in Rome for 3 days after the Odyssey TA and stayed right outside the Vatican Colonades so info is accurate as of mid May 2025

I booked through Royal, I assume there's no option of where to get off the train? Near the Vatican would be ideal, that's where we were planning to go. If I have to use a Bolt to get from the train station to the Vatican I'm ok with that too.

If you get the local train you can get off at Roma San Pietro which is less than a 5 minute walk from the Vatican. If you get the fast train it will take you to Roma Termini which is in the centre of the city
