How long can we stay onboard on disembarkation day?

Recommended Posts

We have a later flight out of FLL and I know it's a short trip over to the airport from the port terminal.  Our flight doesn't leave until 5:00 pm.  Hate to have five kids sitting in the airport all day so I'll take all the extra ship time we can get.  Willing to take our luggage off ourselves, whatever makes it easiest.  Anyone hid in a lounge before?:10_wink:

Another option that would help keep the kids entertained: You can book an excursion for disembarkation day in the Cruise Planner, and IIRC the ship will send your luggage directly to the airport or, if part of the excursion is to take you back to the airport at the end, load it on the excursion bus. Maybe an Everglades airboat tour? I've heard that's a big hit with kids.

Just remember, pretty much everything starts to shut down at 8am to 8:30am.. and you can't use the pool etc.. So you will just end up sitting somewhere out of the way on the boat instead. Still might be better than the airport..

Our Genie has always let us stay on until around 10:30.  We just go up to the CK and he has come to get us and take us down.

I have always been amazed at how MANY people are still on the ship at 10:30.  We have always been FAR from the last people off the ship, even at 10:30.

I'm not sure how welcome you would be on other parts of the ship though.  My guess is they would be trying to push you out long before 10:30.

That's why I never bother staying onboard. It's depressing enough knowing you have to get off, but nothing to do? I'd rather be on my way.

How quickly do they get the suites turned over?  We've got a 2BR ATS on Oasis in June.  We're planning to arrive at the port around 10:30...  I assumed the Genie would be taking us straight to the room, but perhaps I assume too much?  I suppose we can enjoy the lounge until the Genie gets us.  First time in a suite and we intend to get every bang for our buck.  Lol.

They make getting the Star Class suites ready, a priority.  We have always been escorted directly to our suite and it has always been ready.  We usually arrive between 10:30 and 11:00.  I think you are on Oasis, right ?  I have never been in a Star Class suite at Port Canaveral so I don't know how they are set up but at Port Everglades the check-in system just hasn't quite been perfected.  One piece of advice I will offer is DO NOT surrender your luggage to anyone until you have checked in with the Star Class coordinator INSIDE the terminal.  We have done this wrong 3 times and 3 times we've had delays in getting our luggage to our suite.  Even though there will be a luggage area with a Star Class banner, don't surrender your luggage until the Star Class coordinator knows you are there.  At Port Everglades, you have at least a half dozen people assure you that they are Star Class handlers. DON'T DO IT !  Last time we had to chase down our luggage from the Star Class people and it was a big mess.  I finally learned my lesson.  Hold onto it until you're past the first checkpoint.  THEY will assign someone to take your luggage.

2 out of the 3 times we have checked in at Star Class we have had someone other than our Genie escort us to our suite.  Turnover morning is a madhouse and the Genies share responsibilities (at least, at PE they do) for getting all of the Star Class guests situated.  They (Star Class guests) all seem to show up at basically the same time (as early as possible, of course) and there is a mad rush to get everyone on the ship so twice we had one of the other Genies take us in.  That was fine.  You will find that the Genies are all very interchangeable and, in fact, one of the few times that we had a serious issue to be resolved, it was one of the other Genies on board that actually got it squared away for us.  It's nice to meet all of them so that they know you are Star Class and you can ask any one of them for help if you need it.  I loved that about the whole Genie thing.  They are just wonderful.

Hide in a janitorial closet. They won't find you for awhile.

Oh, that is very valuable information!  Thank you for sharing that.  I've been reading this board on and off for more than a year now and that's the first time I remember seeing that.  I will report back on my experience in Port Canaveral.

Not to hijack this thread but can I ask what is this Genie of which you speak??  Hubby, daughter & I are sailing out of Tampa in a Grand Suite.  Is "Genie" a perk?

Thank you!!

Welcome to the message boards!

Genie's are a feature of Star Class Suites on Oasis and Quantum class ships.  They are a personal butler essentially.  Not available on ships out of Tampa at this point.

As @twangster mentioned, only on Quantum and Oasis class ships.  Here are some links that describe it:

Just a heads up...don't go to the airport too early. We did that our last time there and we weren't allowed up past security until 2 hours before our flight. We were stuck sitting down in baggage claim dreaming of the Starbucks upstairs.

@rjac has offered his services as a magic genie.  Might not be the same as a Royal Genie though and you have to put up with him sleeping on your cabin floor.

We had a 2BR ATS  on Oasis in 2017, got to the port about 1030 also and was in the room by just after 11.  Our genie (Alan), escorted us from the curb, past lines, got our cards then plopped us down in a waiting area for about 10 minutes, then it was straight to the room.  ?  You'll have a blast and be spoiled

Do you know if this applies to Sky Class as well?  Or is it okay to let the porters at the curb take our luggage?
