Do you have any credit cards that cover lost luggage? I have that with the Chase Reserve card.

No, I'm almost sure I don't. My guess is they would only have a $300 to $500 limit if I did anyway.

I'm packing a lot of nice/pricey clothes for the evening on my next cruise. If my garment bag (Check in luggage) happens to get lost, I need $1k to cover clothing. Any recommendations on insurance policies for large lost luggage pay out? Thanks.

I’d certainly check your credit card(s) that you used. Most Visa cards these days have a lot of benefits that people overlook.

Personally, I wouldn’t take any clothes that would be considered “pricey”.  If you get a spill, the laundry facilities may not be able to clean it properly. We’ve had a few things cleaned over the years and the results are ok, but not great.

good luck

I've been buying shirts especially for evenings on my next trip (Celebrity Beyond). Most are between $90 to $140. So that alone takes out a basic $500 for luggage. Then add nice jeans, shoes, etc. And let's not forget the new luggage itself. LOL. Just kinda think the basic $500 coverage won't cut it.

As far as spill's and laundry. Vacation is one of the very few times I will get to wear these things. Actually thinking about disposal plastic bibs for dinner. I usually tuck my cloth napkin in my shirt like a hillbilly when I have something nice on. LOL.

My Amex Platinum card has $500 per checked bag and $1250 for carryon bags assuming you use that card to pay for the trip.  One of the best travel credit card policies I know of.

Allianz will cover up to $2000 for baggage loss and damage according to their site for their Premier policy.  Travel Insurance: OneTrip Premier Plan | Allianz Global Assistance

I checked out the premier plan. I get like $189 per person. About $50 pp more than we usually spend, but I think worth it for clothes, shoes, and luggage itself. All are more than a basic $500 pp loss. Thank you so much for the suggestion/information. It saved me a lot of time. Looks like a good plan.

just checked my insurance which is through Virgin Money in the UK.

Lost baggage gives me up to £1500 per person

I would always recommend checking the limits for this, cancellation, delays and also for medical.

At least in the UK we have to be able to find these limits easily so my policy wording shows them in a page called "summary of cover limits"

Also, check Royal, as the baggage allowance is usually higher than Allianz.  However, you must have clothing receipts.  Few people have proof of purchase, which makes a lot of baggage insurance coverage moot.  Often the default without receipts is less, like $300-$500.

But if you carry off your luggage at disembarkation, you only need to worry about embarkation.  Your risk is reduced 50%.
