Archarial Posted September 23, 2024 Report Posted September 23, 2024 (edited) My family is set for the Oct 5th sailing of the Icon and I just received an email saying there is currently some unplanned maintenance happening, but that they are confident our sailing will not be affected. Does anyone have an idea what is being worked on? And will the Sept 28th sailing be affected? Fingers crossed neither are affected. I've been so excited for this cruise for the past year or so since we booked it and I will be... pretty sad if it gets cancelled. EDIT: Doh, I just saw the news post on the main page about this haha. Feel free to delete this post in that case! Edited September 23, 2024 by Archarial cruisellama 1 Quote

twangster Posted September 23, 2024 Report Posted September 23, 2024 For the current voyage is skipping St Thomas to get to CocoCay and then home at reduced speed. Sounds like an issue limiting propulsion. I'm sure they'll know more once divers can get in the water and look it over. Snotarni 1 Quote

smokeybandit Posted September 24, 2024 Report Posted September 24, 2024 With Icon already having some power issues, it could just as easily be related to that than the usual azipod culprit. Quote
Lexster Posted September 24, 2024 Report Posted September 24, 2024 I'm on Icon at the end of October...man, between this and hurricanes I'm stressing out that I might not get the cruise I've been planning for a year. PPPJJ-GCVAB 1 Quote
bobroo Posted September 24, 2024 Report Posted September 24, 2024 Not to speak with a tinfoil hat but it's hard for me not to put Icons power outage in May, Icons small fire in June, an abrupt apparent policy change to power adapters across the fleet, and now Icon has some sort of substantial mechanical problem-- all in one related basket. If there is a bright side, Icon being docked and out of the weather next week is a darn good place for it to be. Baked Alaska and Ryan79 2 Quote
PPPJJ-GCVAB Posted September 24, 2024 Report Posted September 24, 2024 While I was on Mardi Gras last week I got some awesome pics of Icon docked with us in Costa Maya. We had rooms in the Havana section and Icon backed up to our balcony! WAAAYTOOO, SplashOfWater, asquared17 and 4 others 6 1 Quote
dr martini Posted September 24, 2024 Report Posted September 24, 2024 they're erring on the side of caution and just made a wildly expensive decision to get to the bottom of the issue and get it resolved. in my job working around a variety of restaurants and grocery stores i see equipment breakdowns and computer issues all the time, it never ends and it has nothing to do with the age or size of the equipment. i've seen brand new stuff out of the box have issues and have seen compressors still running refrigeration on electric motors that are older than me. same can be said for the delivery companies we rely on, they all have trucking or IT issues from time to time. this is just what modern life is like and we never close a store to repair one cooler or cash register. you do everything possible to find a workaround, do the work at odd hours etc. to close business for day or a week is a huge loss. when you consider the scale, the number of things it takes to keep your average grocery store stocked with the variety of food we have today, to get anything in the world delivered to you in two days, to run the Navy that we have or the fleet that Royal has considering the number of things that can go wrong it's amazing we don't see this happen more. the baseline operative state for a piece of steel in saltwater is drifting along with the current while sinking - the level of work and discipline to keep this from happening is truly not imaginable by most of us average people. MarvinS Posted September 24, 2024 Report Posted September 24, 2024 Major bummer for me! I was supposed to be getting on Icon in just a few days (Sept. 28th) and that sailing was just cancelled! I was so looking forward to seeing this new ship! As I already had airfare planned all the way from Alaska and leave time carefully scheduled off work, I did have some flexibility in that we were leaving for two weeks (one week cruise; one week visiting family). I immediately worked with my wonderful MEI travel agent @michelle, and was able to re-book onto Adventure the following week, so just flipped and switched around my travel plans. Fortunately, I was able to get things shuffled around without too much hassle. At least I'll be able to get on a cruise ship for vacation! Adventure is one I've not been on yet, so will get to add that one to my list, too. THIS IS WHY I USE A TRAVEL AGENT! PPPJJ-GCVAB, Matt, Archarial and 7 others 5 5 Quote
Davida Posted September 25, 2024 Report Posted September 25, 2024 We literally just got off of ICON last Saturday! I would have been devastated because I booked our cruise in Dec 2022. My family had soooo much fun and I won the bid on Royal-up for $310!!! I hope everyone get to experience it! Happy sailing!🛳 WAAAYTOOO 1 Quote
ApexoftheSeas Posted September 28, 2024 Report Posted September 28, 2024 Icon left Miami at 3:00ish PM and according to the cruise tracking websites, it is at the Grand Bahama Shipyard. I wonder why it needs to go there? Is that just procedure, or is something else wrong? Quote

ApexoftheSeas Posted September 29, 2024 Report Posted September 29, 2024 Terminal A wouldn't need to be used until Monday, but maybe they need to take it to a shipyard for more advanced machinery needed that is not available in Miami Quote

bluer101 Posted October 3, 2024 Report Posted October 3, 2024 Next question, does anyone think that the rooms will be open when we board seeing they should already be cleaned and prepared? Reason I ask is I might carry my luggage on vs checking it in the morning seeing we have a early boarding time. Quote
