Baldoon
Are there shuttles or golf carts that run up and down the pier of the various ports for passengers with limited mobility, to get on to the island? If so, is there a cost and do I arrange once on the ship at customer relations? Thank you.
AshleyDillo
Different ports are set up with different services. It's usually first come, first serve. If there is a particular port you want to know about, name the port and someone here can provide their personal experiences. Neesa
Neesa
Speaking of piers, has anyone seen the new pier at the new DCL private Island? (Lighthouse Point) The reason I mention it is because it looks 4 X as long as the one at Coco Cay and most feedback is....ready? Why don't they copy Royal Caribbean private Island pier? They need to provide shade, they need to provide golf carts at the least! It's early yet but I thought it was cool they referenced "our" private Island. Just put a smile across my face, happy Island hopping all! OCSC Mike and WAAAYTOOO 1
twangster
Other than the piers built at their own private destinations, for Royal that is Labadee and Cococay, the piers are owned and operated by local entities and they control or provide transportation. Royal, or any cruise line, can't just bring golf carts and start using them, there are insurance and safety concerns that the owners of the piers would have. In some cases they can't even put up water stations or a covered tent structure, they make a request and are denied. I've had discussions with Hotel Directors about this and in many cases they are limited with respect to what they can get away with on piers they don't own. Ryan79
Some piers yes, some no. Some ports there are no piers. It’s all up to whoever owns and operates the pier as to the amenities they offer. ADA is an American Law, not an international one so not all will have and make accommodations that you are used to.

Then there is another team that takes you around the island with stops at all the major parts. They do have beach wheelchairs available at CocoCay but I am not sure how those are reserved. I would check Guest Services or the Shore Excursion desk to ask. I didn't see any carts at Grand Turk, but I didn't spend much time there. The pier is short compared to most other ports and the port area is not that large and all concrete.

Those shuttles do not make the intermittent “stop” at the main entrance to Coco Cay but continue on to the individual stops at the various areas of the island. IOW, you will not have to change shuttles. It’s waaay more convenient than having to get off the pier shuttle, get into the island shuttle line and then reboard a new shuttle.
