DutchmanOfTheSeas
Hello y'all! About a month from now I'll be going on my second ever cruise! Wooo! I have a question about the formal dinners in the Minstrel Dining Room, though. Which nights can I expect to be Formal nights? Has anyone of you made this cruise yet? I'd be happy to hear your thoughts. Thanks! DocLC
BrianAlt
Hard to say on a 12-nighter. It might be 2 or 3 formal nights.
DutchmanOfTheSeas
According to Royal's website, it's probably 2 or 3 nights indeed. We got My Time Dining, so the reason I'm asking is because I wanted to make reservations for the dining room. I really want to be there on both (or three) nights :-)
BrianAlt
Make reservations for every night. You can always change them when you get on board if you need to.
DutchmanOfTheSeas
Are reservations easily cancellable? If so, I think I'm gonna do that. Thanks!

They are, but you can also make them onboard once you've confirmed when formal nights will be. For what it's worth, I've never made MTD reservations and haven't had any problems, but I will admit that they are the busiest on formal nights. Formal night will never be on Embarkation day not the last night. Night 2 is a typical formal night if it is a sea day or any early departure from port day. Most often, formal nights are on sea days; if you have any on your itinerary that's likely when they'll be. BrianAlt

How will formal nights be announced other than the day before on the Cruise Compass?

They won't, although you could ask on the first night in the main dining room.
