I imagine other countries will probably do the same in the future

Ok I wonder if the person who actually caused the fire was drunk , there's an idea let's take all alcohol off the ships!

that way we can do away with the rudeness the sexist remarks and the other crap comes with drunks.?

One of the reports actually suggest that the cigarette was extinguished but still smoldering enough that it caused a fire afterwards. The other theory is that it was flicked overboard and that the plastic furniture and partitions were easily combustible. Add to the fact that the balconies are wedding cake style with lower balconies jutting out farther than upper balconies, there were plenty of balconies to catch the butt if it was actually flicked overboard.

Isn't it wonderful that Empress of the Seas has a non-smoking casino?  We can actually walk through it vice circumventing it.

Fortunately, in America smoking is a generational thing.  As soon as the WWII, Korea, and now the Vietnam generation dies off, so will the number of people that smoke.

The younger crowd realizes the perils of smoking and don't want anything to do with it as they want to live longer.

Nothing good comes from it (other than increased dividends from companies that foster it)  yet many problems incur.  The way to curb this is by taxing tobacco so it becomes un-affordable.

I've lost two parents due to smoking, as well as many uncles, aunts, and cousins.  One due exclusively to second hand smoke.

Yeah, it's my pet peeve.  We all have them.

I would welcome a non smoking ship(s) in RCCL and pray they do realize the harm smoking causes and prototypes the concept. They also need to enforce this on the crew.

My $.02.

I somewhat agree with you. However, I think if a cruise line was to go totally non smoking, they would be out of business shortly...there are still a lot of smokers out there that cruise. Also, I detest heavy drinking. Maybe they should tax booze to make that unaffordable. I think the only happy medium is to have a smoking section...casino and 1 deck....and a drinking section...maybe just 1 or 2 bars instead of the number they have now. JMO

Ships should close down the buffets and limit the food they serve you based on some of the arguments about smoking on here. Or maybe tax the buffet or charge high rates for anything over your daily 2000 calorie intake. :33_unamused:

Obesity is just as bad or worse than smoking on your body and the effect on our health care system.

So really, lets stop being so PC and compromise and get along.. It doesn't HAVE to be one way or no way......people used to be able to co exist......nowdays not so much.

As for young people not smoking as much?!....not my observations when I travel both in Canada and the US and the Caribbean.

You can't compare smoking to eating.  Does what someone eats really affect you?  Or affect you to the level of someone smoking in your vicinity?

Larry Hagman, who supposedly wasn't a very nice person, used to carry with him a small bottle of bubbles.  While people were smoking in his vicinity he would blow bubbles in theirs.  Would that be acceptable to you?

Its not the same I know....

I was mainly referring to some of the comments about how younger people don't smoke now and people want to live longer and the unhealthy side of it.

Plus, there is about 90% of the ship smoke free to its not hard to avoid it.

And yes, if they want to have a bubble blowing section of the ship sure....I will just avoid it....pretty simple.

Again, like I have stated before..I don't know how people ever lived before...now everyone wants to live in their own bubble when it comes to so much. If its that big a deal for you when you travel, then don't travel or pick a different type of vacation. Noone is forcing you to take a cruise.

And yes, your overeating at the buffet does affect me and my health care system and access.....so there is an indirect affect..just like smoking.

I'm personally fine with there being smoking sections.  I'm fine with the way things are today.  I often walk on "that side" of the pool deck and say to myself, "ugh, why didn't I walk on the other side?"  But I live with it and I think those that want to smoke should feel free to do it there.
