The "sweet spot" cruiser

I'm 21 years old, so I guess not in their "sweet pot" yet...

Tampa, FL, 21 years old and you don't think you're in a "sweet spot". Son, some of these senior cruisers will probably beat the hell out of you with their walking canes, drink straws or challenge you to an arm wrestling contest if they ever meet you on a cruise. By the way, when is your next cruise?

Great price.  I wish southwest flew out of ohare!  Lately american has been our best options in terms of convenience but not necessarily the cheapest.   Im starting to try and price now for the January half marathon at disney...need to fly in and out of Orlando but those prices are better than in Dec or march.  Jane

I'll be there attempting my first marathon after getting off a cruise the day before. We're flying into and out of Orlando, but only have our return airfare right now. American is cheapest for our outbound flight, but we're needing to go between Christmas and New Year's which greatly influences the price.

Are you spending any time the week after?   We are there til tuesday or wednesday...hey...rc meet up at the disney marathon everyone!   Im actually flying in dec 26 to 30 to chaperone my daughters choir performance at epcot and tickets averaging 550 round trip.   Then i fly back on Jan 2 for the race...still have to buy those.   I have flown american a lot lately...they aren't significantly way cheaper,  but a bit and they seem to have the best times into chicago.   Jane

We're flying in on December 29th, driving to Miami, staying at a park/cruise hotel, then cruising from Saturday to Saturday (12/30-1/6). Then I head back to Orlando to pick up my race packet for the Sunday marathon. We're flying Southwest home as they had cheap tickets available. Right now, American is the cheapest going out.

We're staying at Disney from Saturday (1/6) until Wednesday morning and then moving over to Universal until Saturday. Scott Stein is a bartender at Disney, so a Disney Springs meet up might be in order. Perhaps we can coerce @Matt to join us!

Yeah @Matt. I'm only a boat ride away from Disney Springs. Plus, I used MEI to book my cruise and post-cruise Disney stay, so you want to support the sponsor! ;)

First cruise at 22, now 29. Married but no kids. 8th cruise booked sept 3 on Oasis. So our sweet spot is cruise anytime kids are still in school! Keep the pee out of the pool.

You do know that senior citizens have "accidents" in a pool also. Why do you think they smile so much when they're in a pool? You can forget about the hot tuns too!:27_sunglasses:

By hot tubs, you are referring to the giant petri dishes? :4_joy:

Why do you think they put so much chlorine in the water?

Yes they do... My daughter just realized that she needs a new trombone mouthpiece.   No trip to the music store needed...amazon prime to the rescue!  Jane

We have two sons who are musicians, so I know what you mean! Although most of our trips are usually to Guitar Center.

That's funny... I would have thought the "sweet spot" was anyone with time, money and an inclination to cruise.  :8_laughing:

Oh, well, guess at my age I'll just cruise and find a "sweet spot" on the deck to watch those Maturing Millennials with kids play.  Or maybe I'll simply ignore my age and join in!

JLMoran,

In 2016 I took a cruise 8 cruises, four I paid for and four were casino free cruises.

In 2017, I took a cruise in January, February, March, May and have a cruise in September, October and November and none were casino free cruises.

I already have cruises in January, May, September, October and November of 2018 booked and two for 2019 booked.

I am not bragging, but when you retire you can do so much more:10_wink:

Talk about a cruiseaholic!  You have everyone's envy on this message board. Did you win the Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes to pay for all these cruises?:27_sunglasses:

If you have to attend a 12 step program, that's a great reason! :4_joy:

Sounds like more fun than the ones I have been to!

Hey, I'm only 47 and just got my AARP membership card! :4_joy::4_joy:

Apparently, younger spouses of eligible individuals are allowed to join even if they're not yet 50 themselves.

I just joined to get $3 off the the soda and popcorn combo at Regal Cinemas. I'm not 50 (yet), but they didn't deny my membership either.

Yup, I am in the "Sweet Spot" of old age. Many of my cruises are discounted for gambling so it allows me to take about 4 extra cruises a year.

I am sure that the cruise lines will figure out a way to take the casino benefit away, so the number of cruises will drop dramatically. It seems Royal is really cutting into customer service with all the changes to NextCruise and two different kinds of deposits, I am wondering what they can take away next.

I'm still a relative newbie here, but this sure seems to hit home.  Of all the policy changes and the like, I don't recall any of them being that much more beneficial to the cruiser.

I know it is just smart business and all that blah blah, and they won't be cruising with any fewer empty cabins, but RC seems to have shifted their loyalty from their

long-term customers who made them so successful to anyone who has money.  All we need is another recession, and they'll realize that they shouldn't have alienated their core "fan base".

This could very well be a tend in the industry. Carnival has had a non refundable deposit rate for years. Theirs, however, offers price protection even after final payment. As a result, opting for the non refundable deposit guarantees that you'll pay the lowest price.

@Floski You raise some good points. Another thing to keep in mind is if they ever reinstate the fuel surcharge. That could change things dramatically especially those that can't afford the surcharge and cancel but now can't get a refund.

Had Total extended the hours of the WJ or improved quality and selection of late night dining, I don't think anyone would have cared about the room service charge as it would be for convenience. Also, if Royal added a substantial perk to the non-refundable deposit program (e.g., you're guaranteed the lowest price,), I don't think it would have caused such an uproar.

Keep in mind, though, that we're uber fans, which is why we're hear talking about this. Most of the cruising public probably doesn't care or hasn't noticed.
