What to do in Curacao?

We are on Adventure for the ABC/St.M cruise.  Renting a jeep in Aruba, Snorekling in Bonaire, Maho in St. Maarten---but what to do in Curacao? The last cruise I was on there, I was sick and never left the ship. We are two active adults with two 16 year old girls. Any suggestions for must do that won't cost an arm and a leg? (are other port days are already a bit costly with our planned itinerarys). Thanks y'all!

Here's a link that might help you out for some excursions in Curacao: http://www.shoreexcursionsgroup.com/. They are competitive with the excursions that RCI offers and have a good reputation.

Curaçao is my favorite Caribbean island.  It's so quaint. It's a very walkable downtown and port area.  I love the tuk tuks. Little 3 wheeled golf cart kind of things. They will take you on a city tour no  floating market   So much fun....and you will find out what a douchie (pronounced dooshie) is.  It's not what you think...

Can I just walk off the boat and wander around? Is town that close? I'm all about that!

Yes, you can.  When you go out of the port, turn right and head to the old fortress area.  In Curacao they have done something that we, in the US, would NEVER do.  They took the old fortress "ruins" and renovated them into shops, restaurants, even a casino.  It is SOOO quaint.  Just keep walking through that area and eventually you will come to the floating bridge that will lead you into the downtown area.  It is all very walkable and very friendly.  On the city side of the floating bridge is where you will find the tuk tuk station.  They will drive you around town and tell you about the area.  It's a very interesting place.  Lots of cultural merging.  Just a lovely place, all around.

Yes you can. There's a walkway that leads to the bridge that leads downtown. Easy and enjoyable walk.

last visit I did the caves and walking tour combo.  The walking tour after the caves in downtown was informative, and I think the best part of the day was hanging out in town after.  it is a great town, walkable from the pier, lots of shops and eateries.  great place.  Next visit I plan to just walk to town and hang out.

Don't know if 16yo's would enjoy that or not, YMMV ;)
