Length of cruise Ship

Good Afternoon,

We are traveling on the Mariner of the Seas in July, does anyone know the aprox lenght of the ship.    My husband doesn't believe the ship will be very big.    Plus I'm trying to figure out if I will be able to do all the walking or if I need to bring my mobility scooter.    I'm very anxious.

Mariner is 1,021 feet in length.  (For comparison, Oasis is 1,186 feet in length and Vision is 915 feet).

In the Royal fleet, I could call it a medium sized ship with it being sizable smaller than Oasis and Quantum classes. However I would call it a large ship when compared to other cruise lines. It’s capacity is 4000, which is not considered small by any means. My first cruise was on a ship with a 2600 capacity and I remember thinking that was large!!

Mariner (140k GT) is closer to the size of a Quantum ship (168k GT) than a Radiance ship (90k GT)

Funny thing about many cruisers..... the walk through the terminal and through the gangway to get onboard? No Problem!  The walk from the MDR to the theater or casino? Not a second thought. The walk from a venue like the Viking Crown to another venue like Boleros or Karaoke or the ice cream machine by the pool?  Not an issue.

 

The even less of a length of walk from an elevator bank, down a straight hallway, and to their stateroom??? OMG! My legs are going to fall off!

Late at night after using all my vouchers, that walk from the elevator to an aft cabin feels like miles.

Then again it'd feel the same way on land, too.

I found it after using all my drink vouchers. I don’t remember the ship.

I also vaguely remember it seemed to be going the wrong direction as I barely made it to Aqua suite.

It is not so much the length of the ship that counts it is the beam and the interior volume that make a huge difference.

You might count different ways but Mariner has at least 8 bars, 10 restaurants, 3 pools, several shows, A solarium, A promenade, ice skating rink, flow rider, gym, spa........

It’s big. Mariner is such a great ship! I would say if you have to ask the question then you should bring the scooter.

We've come a long way and are very much spoiled to even think of Voyager-class ships as small. 

 

These ships are still huge, and quite magnificent.

Voyager class including Mariner is larger than anything the Carnival whale tail fleet ever sailed until Mardi Gras entered service in 2021.

They are not small.

It is larger than the "small" Vision Class.  It has a promenade.  You can break up the walking by sitting at a cafe or bar.  Look at where your stateroom is located on the deck plans and see how it compares to the venues you'd like to visit and the elevators.  We had a great time on Mariner in June 2022.  I found it much easier to get around on the Mariner than on the Harmony.

I think you should bring it just in case. It also opens up options in port. Worst case is you schlepped it for nothing, best case is you saved your trip. Bring it.

Agreed. The RC definition of "small" has become quite skewed as larger classes were introduced. It's "smallER" than the bigger classes but by no means small.

We were looking at a cheap cruise on Enchantment just for the price... now THAT I would find small.

Mariner is a big ship. In 2003, it (Voyager Class) was the largest ship until Queen Mary 2 was launched. A trick for getting around is if you need to go aft from the theater, use Deck 4 instead of the main theater level on Deck 3. That way you can go to the outside deck just under the lifeboats and vice versa. You can get to/from the Main Dining Room and the theater or Schooner Bar or Izumi in about a minute without dealing with people in your way or crowds letting out of the theater. From the theater for example, most people crowd the forward elevators or steps to go to the Royal Promenade or head to Schooner, Izumi or the casino. You can get aft, but you're dodging a lot of stuff. Instead, go right to take the port side outside deck or turn left to take the starboard side outside deck.

Agree with those who post the scooter is a good idea . You can be dropped off at the terminal entrance, but it is quite  a hike through check-in then on to the gangway and the ramps within the terminal to the gangway are "uphill" embarking. Pack the scooter, you won't regret it.

our very first cruise was in the 90s  Majesty   to us it was huge.  We had never seen such beauty.  Is there any that small left?
