Any suggestions from more experienced cruisers?

I was researching these and deciding whether I could do just a large carry-on or go full check-in. I know myself and when it comes down to last minute..I'm not a light packer..

Historically I've not been a spend big on luggage kind of guy.  I would just buy reasonably priced checked luggage and beat it until it died, then rinse and repeat.  I had heard all the hype about Away bags, and during the pandemic they had a pretty big sale, so I bit the bullet and got a large and and bigger carry on with pocket.  I absolutely love them both, and they've held up amazing well to my family's best attempts to destroy them.  The warranty and service is unbelievable as well.  In the realm of really expensive luggage, these still don't qualify, but they are more than I traditionally paid for bags in the past, and I would not hesitate to buy them again even at full price.

Rimowa. I’ve owned a set for 10+ years and will never need to buy another. Expensive upfront cost but very high quality that can take abuse from travel and actually looks better after some wear. It’s not for everyone.

would second this vote for away.

i had one of the "feet" at the bottom of my large suitcase from them get loose after using the case for well over 5 years. they immediately shipped me a replacement, in which i was able to box up and ship back my old suitcase. i also have their bigger carryon, which i love.

for a carryon personal bag, i love the dagne dover landon bag. i have used the large for years but just transitioned to the XL for additional space. the bag has held up remarkably over the years, the fabric is great, and the zippers are nearly indestructible. i also have their dopp kit bag to go inside -- they will give you 15% off if you buy a set.
