M First
Hello I have a question , Over the years I have acquired several foreign coins [Canadian, Mexican, Israeli coins Shekels, German Coins etc.. I am looking to exchange these coins int US Currency or spend them in the countries where my next ports are - This will include - Cabo San Lucas, Mazlan and Puerto Vallarta. I understand that the Mexican pesos there wont be any issues, But does any one know if these Mexican cities will accept - Euros coins, Canadian Coins , German coins and Israeli coins while I am in their ports. Unable to get any information from RCCL all advice is much appreciated. Thank you Michael
FionaMG
Your German coins (assuming you mean Deutsch Marks?) are not legal tender and haven’t been for many years; Germany uses the euro. You can use euro coins in the French Caribbean ports, i.e. the French side of Saint Martin, Guadeloupe and Martinique, as the euro is the official currency there. Otherwise I think your best bet would be to try and meet up with other cruisers for whom your coins are their home countries' currency and see if they might be willing to exchange them for you at the going rate or at least give you banknotes in place of the coins, which you would be able to exchange at your bank. ChessE4
Give to scouts for merit badge or save as souvenirs. Junk foreign coins are often sold by pound unless high value, silver, etc. Euro coins are handy for rest room donations in Europe. We paid 50 cents each at public toilets.
