chat app

Used it about a month ago. The one major flaw is that you must be actively in the app looking at the screen to know if you have a message or not. So it’s great for non-urgent messages, and not good (but better than nothing for sure) when you may need a quick response. However for having teenage boys on a ship who like to go out and do their own thing….it is wonderful, flaws and all!!

That's what I was looking for.  I don't plan on getting internet this time to unplug, but we are going with a bigger party this time so if we go do separate things just to let everyone know or trying to find someone.

Follow up I guess is, if you turn on push notification for the Royal app do you know if it tells you have message?

I am pretty sure I got some push notifications. I did not get a sound or buzz. Perhaps this is possible in settings.

The messaging on the app worked quite well. I can only think of one time the service dropped out.

I had free internet through my TA. Overall the internet was not as bad as I feared. I don't think I did netflix or anything.

But I could read email, the NY times, and post to facebook and instagram just fine.

I used it on Oasis in Jan, my notifications would work, and I would see when I got a message. Not the same for my brother, he had to go in the app to see the message. No rhyme or reason as to why some people get it and some don't. It is still cool enough to be able to communicate if you don't want to get an internet package.

How about messaging a passenger that is currently off the ship? I know they won't get it while they are off the ship, but will they then get it once they return? DH is planning on taking an excursion while I stay on board, so I would like to message him where I am before he returns. Would that work?

It will but he will have to check the app as soon as he returns.

Our team tried out the chat feature a couple weeks ago once it became free: https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2023/01/09/royal-caribbeans-onboard-messaging-system-now-free-heres-how-it-works

Thanks Matt, I must of missed that article. Very well written and explained what I needed to know.
