Currently on Oasis, day 3 but just finally deciding I would try to do a little recap/review as we go on for the rest of the trip. This is my 3rd cruise, 2nd with my wife and 1st with a child..he's 11.  (and the first 2 were both over 15 years ago..and I don't remember much of either)

Day 1: there was a huge marathon in Miami,so it took us over an hour to get the the terminal in a shuttle from the airport area. Check in for us was 11-1130. We boarded around 1215 or so.  The traffic was terrible BUT the actual embarkation process was smooth and very fast. Got into the Promemade, grabbed a table at Sorrentos where we told our son that he could just walk up and ask for pizza..and they would just give it to him. His mind was blown and he came back with 3 slices, which he devoured. Picked up our drink package cups, and grabbed the wife a wine from the Globe and atlas bar. I do not drink,so i got the refreshment package, she had the deluxe. By now it was already 1pm and we were able to go up and check out the room. We upgraded from an interior/central park view room to a boardwalk balcony a few months back. Definitely glad we did. We loved the fact that we can see the ocean, people watch and most importantly to us..watch the Eagles game from our balcony either looking at the aqua theatre screen OR directly across at the tvs outside Playmakers if needed. Luggage was in the hall by 130,unpacked,signed the boy up at adventure ocean, and  back downstairs to watch the game with the crowd in the boardwalk area.

Sailaway was scheduled at 430 so we hit the upper decks and bounced around a few times before finally finding the Wipeout bar on the aft of the ship. Again we were able to watch the game, and still have a great view as we pulled off (which didn't occur until almost 6pm) . We skipped our 530 MDR dining for the night and hit Windjammer.  Food was really good...BBQ ribs, burgers, dogs, salads and a few desserts later we were full. Finding a table was a bit of a hassle but we did get one eventually.  After that we just checked out the sports deck..played lots of mini golf, ate MORE pizza and wrapped the night up with the midnight balloon drop. Day 1 was pretty much perfect,no huge crowds, no complaints, just a start to a great trip. I'll do a day 2 recap in a bit...it's 10am and the family is still sleeping and I've been up since 645. Time for me to get them moving!

I would love to hear what your son thinks of AO. As a preteen, did he think that they had enough entertainment for his age group?

Agree! My son will turn 12 just a few days before we sail on Oasis in March, so interested to hear what games and activities he did at AO and how they cater to the tweens!

Your 12 year old will be the coolest on Oasis if he goes to the arcade and in the corner finds the game called King's Passage.  You beat a level or so and then you can pull on it and it opens as a door that gives access to the Teen Hangout.  it's super cool.  My 12 year old felt like the king of town doing that.

@Xaa that game has been off all week...but I'm actually in the arcade now and see the door! That would have been so cool,I had no clue what it was.  Also...I'll continue my review later tonight if I can...got nights 2-4 to update! I can tell you that I won't have a proper review of AO because my kid left after approximately 9 minutes.

I wrote a huge review and when I hit post..it disappeared.  So I will just hit cliff notes.

Coco cay..we did chill beach and the pool and were back on the ship by 1:30...thought this would be our favorite but saw,did and was done by lunch.

We only ate MDR 3 nights... Italian night everything was great, loved the chicken parm and lasagna.  Mexican night was ok had the enchiladas and grilled chicken...and farewell night was good, tried a little of everything. ... on Royal night we actually ate at play makers since none of us eat Lobster. The burger and chicken fingers were great, wings were just ok. LOVED the aquashow, ice show was a bit weird, but still very fun.  My kid bailed on AO after about 10 minutes and refused to try again. Loved the arcade and mini golf and Sorrentos made us about 65%of his meals.

I don't drink and the bartenders were very supportive and helpful once they knew this, made me tons of mocktails over the week. We were right down the hall from the 2nd floor entrance to music hall so we enjoyed a few late nights with the Journey covet band.  Spent some "daddy time" at the casino a few times,as well.

Ship never felt crowded except maybe once or twice at Windjammer.  Brought magnet hooks...didn't need magnet hooks. Over packed even though we swore we wouldnt. The last night was VERY rough and on the last day, crew was complaining about not being able to get motion sickness pills, so we gave the bartender at playmakers a box of bonine for her and her staff. They were very appreciative and now we know what to bring as a gift to the crew next time.

Any questions...fire away! Overall this was a GREAT trip with no complaints from any of us

@morganpink2001 Assuming that all Oasis class do it the same way, your 12 year old would be in the teen club. My 12 year old was in the teen club last year on Allure. Some ships start at 12 and some start at 13.
