Closed loop trips - Mexico. Do you need a passport to enter from US?

Recommended Posts

As mentioned earlier, the biggest part of this is your citizenship. While I assume most are US citizens on here, not all are, and that's of critical importance. So yeah, US citizens can, but as far as I know, others cannot because their birth certificates may or may not prove citizenship or any kind.

(Technically, US birth certificates don't either because one could always renounce US citizenship, but that starts getting way more in the weeds than needed. I'm a bit of a geek about these things.)

Hi taking the Los Angeles to Ensenada trip and wondering whether one can get off  the ship and explore Ensenada without a passport.

My passport is being processed and thinking about just going on trip with birth certificate.

Thanks

Make sure you have an original that is accepted.  Since you mentioned your passport application is being processed, I am thinking you may have mailed your originl in -- just wanted to clarify.  Some folks order an extra original birth certificate so that they always have a spare....
