Majesty Of the Seas

When Symphony of the Seas arrives in Miami RCCL will have all four Oasis Class ships operating out of Florida.

Is it possible that Majesty will be "Retired" and Oasis will pick up on the Bahamian itineraries?

Similar to what the "Mouse" is doing with the Disney Dream?

In the latest public announcements from RCCL, Bayley mentioned that while Empress is the largest they can take to Cuba now, soon Majesty would be able to dock there.  To me that shows an intent to keep her around for a bit rather than move her to their smaller brands like her sisters were.

I very highly doubt Majesty will be retired any time soon, especially with the new Cuba opportunities.

I find it far more likely that the other Vision class ships (minus Enchantment) will be retired/sold much sooner. I believe that one or two of them (Rhapsody and Grandeur) are listed as for sale someplace on the internet.

Of course, I don't have a source for this (mostly due to laziness).

Three "RCCL" ships showing for sale right now.

Its a guessing game, as they don't give much detail to the public, but in trying to combine the photos and the slim details it appears to be:

1) Photos indicate Vision/Rhapsody twins.  Year mentioned indicates Vision.  Listed at $200 million

2) Photos and year mentioned indicate Grandeur (from the Grandeur/Enchantment twins)  Listed at $300 million

3) Photos and year indicate Majesty's sister Monarch (admits its a Sovereign Class ship, now sailing with RCCL's Pulmantur line)  Listed at $125 million

Personally, I think it would be a huge mistake to keep building this massive ships and reducing the number of smaller ones. We have no desire to cruise on those 200,000+ ton ships.

Hmm - that one is interesting.

Whereas I enjoy both small and large ships, I would love to see some new small ships built that focus on ports with some of the 'big ship' features like a bionic bar or some of the shows.

I'd like to see this, too. Although from what I remember reading earlier, the problem with smaller ships when it comes to the shows is that there isn't enough space for full-time performers along with the regular staff, so you end up with crew members doing double-duty as performers and some other function (e.g., serving staff in the dining areas, bartenders, etc.). if that held, would make it very difficult to get a production like Grease or Chicago.

I'd also guess that a smaller ship makes it more difficult to get the advanced theater stages they have on Oasis / Quantum / Freedom class, where they have the fancy sliding rigs and the lifts / hoists below and above the stage. Not to mention harder to get all the lighting, sound systems, computer controls, etc.

I've kind of decided that I'll not be setting foot on an Oasis class at any time, but if I find out that one of them has gotten Hamilton as its show, we'll be booking in a heartbeat. ;)

Haha! We're actually spending two weeks on Allure of the Seas for our honeymoon (first time on an Oasis class for me), and we've already decided we're likely to not set foot in Mama Mia ;)

(I say that now.. but I'll probably end up booking and sitting towards the back.)

My wife is a huge Abba fan and I had to sit through the movie version of Mamma Mia. While it certainly hasn't made me any more of a fan of Abba (I can still only handle them in micro-doses), I actually kind of enjoyed the movie (apart from hearing Pierce Brosnan sing "SOS", which was just painful). Casting was definitely key there, I'd hope the casting on Oasis was also carefully done to make that show equally entertaining. I'd say give it a go, might be surprising.

After two weeks you will probably show up in the show... But then, it is a honeymoon so who knows...

With no Concierge on the Majesty who does a suite guest go to for assistance?

I can't answer since I've never booked a suite.

also does the pool area have a reserved section for suite guest? Show have an area?

In a word, no... You'll have to swim with the steerage. Unless you hang in the solarium (adults only). They might have special seating for shows, most have a section marked off but I don't remember.

When I was talking to the concierge about this on Radiance he said the problem is that a ship the size of Radiance on a 14+ cruise will make the same money as an Oasis class will make in 7 days.. From a purely financial point of view the bigger ships make more money and they don't seem to have trouble filling them so why would you build something smaller as the payback over the lifetime of a large ship would be much greater.

I guess in the future small ships will be the domain of more specialised luxury cruise lines.

The flip side of that is that RCI keeps complaining that in Australia and NZ that our current cruise terminals cannot support the size of the large ships and are now demanding that new cruise terminals be built to accommodate the ships or they will go somewhere else.

Catch 22 really as if you build bigger facilities then they will probably build even bigger ships.

It's probably one of those guilty pleasures for some! We all have our guilty pleasures. I'll share one of mine, "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald." by Gordon Lightfoot. I can't help it. It reminds me of my childhood and I love it.

Majesty doesn't have a Solarium, unfortunately. #SwimmingWithSteerage

We love Oasis class! So funny seeing the different preferences. You have to go once just to marvel that the thing can float! We've been on Oasis twice at full capacity and it never felt crowded. Our kids loved it.

Hairspray was the show 6 years ago and it was great. When we were on last week though it was Cats. Not appealing at all.

I second Hamilton! Lol

I definitely don't see them retiring Majesty any time soon. That's always going to be one of my favorite ships... I'm going on Anthem and Oasis later this year so I'll see if my opinion changes (I don't think it will)... my first cruises were on Celebrity's Horizon and Zenith back in the late 90's, and cruising on Majesty brought me back to that time period. It reminded me more of the classic cruising experience, but still felt modern enough and relevant to not feel dated. The ship didn't feel like it was the latest and greatest, but it didn't feel old and worn out. She's got plenty of life left in her, and I think she's right where she belongs doing the 3 and 4 nighters to the Bahamas. I wish I had more vacation time because the little 4-nighter I did in February was such a great little getaway. I'd love to do it again.
